Dark Souls is at a standstill but there are other amazing games looking to take up that mantel, including the just-announced Mortal Shell. The latest action-RPG promises the same brutality that we all hate to love with franchises like Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sinner Sacrifice, with a similar dark aesthetic that we all crave.
But what is Mortal Shell? According to studio Cold Symmetry, published by Playstack: “Mortal Shell is a ruthless and deep action-RPG that tests your sanity and resilience in a shattered world. As the remains of humanity wither and rot, zealous foes fester in the ruins. They spare no mercy, with survival demanding superior awareness, precision and instincts. Track down hidden sanctums of devout followers and discover your true purpose.”
Sound familiar? The answer is yes, similar to the answer to “does it sound awesome?”
Mortal Shell channels players to awaken the … well, Mortal Shells of dead defeated warriors in an attempt to occupy their bodies and uncover the mysteries of life, death, and impressive combat. The enemies seen in the reveal trailer look grotesque and daunting, something that scratches that itch mentioned in its entirety, while also providing a brand new story completely unique to Cold Symmetry.
This game will require players to be strategic in how they approach the game. It doesn’t look forgiving to say the least, which is perfect for gamers looking for their next challenge to conquer. While we don’t have a relase date at this time, we do at least have our first look at what Cold Symmetry and Playstack have in store.
