Between the script writer and Eli Roth, the Borderlands movie is definitely going to be something to be remembered.

Just  yesterday, Lionsgate and Gearbox’s Randy Pitchford confirmed that a Borderlands movie is on the way with Eli Roth at the helm as director. While we still don’t know what the plot is of the upcoming movie or how it fits into the games, we do have one more piece to this puzzle in place and that piece comes in the form of one Chernobyl writer.

The news came by way of a press release that has made its way over on Reddit confirming that the two-time Emmy-winning screenwriter will be taking over the scripts for the upcoming movie. Craig Mazin has quite the filmography including a few of the Scary Movie entries spoofing the horror genre as well as the Hangover movies. On the flip side, Mazin also proved he can do drama with the haunting Chernobyl HBO series.

Nathan Kahane, President of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, added in his own statement, “With Eli’s vision and Craig’s screenplay, we believe we have cracked the code on bringing the anarchic world of ‘Borderlands’ to the big screen in a big way that will be a fresh, compelling and cinematic event for moviegoers and fans of the game.”

Mazin will be joined by Eli Roth, Avi Arad, Randy Pitchford, and Straus Zelnick for this new endeavor. “I’m so excited to dive into the world of Borderlands and I could not be doing it with a better script, producing team, and studio. I have a long, successful history with Lionsgate – I feel like we have grown up together and that everything in my directing career has led to a project of this scale and ambition,” Roth said in the same press release.

“I look forward to bringing my own energy, ideas, and vision to the wild, fun, and endlessly creative world of the game. Randy Pitchford and everyone at Gearbox have been incredibly supportive of my ideas – it really feels like a perfect storm of creators coming together. We are out to make a new classic, one which the fans of the game will love, but also one which will find new audiences globally.”

As a huge fan of Roth’s Cabin Fever movie, I’m excited to see how he takes to the world of Pandora. What are your thoughts on the latest news of a Borderlands movie on the horizon? Hit us up on Twitter @PrimaGames
