Been cracking into Pokemon Sword and Shield? We absolutely can’t get enough, so we understand. However, just because your rival doesn’t seem to ever understand type match-ups doesn’t mean that you too are gonna get a free pass from us. Pokemon Sword and Shield Fairy Type Weakness and Strengths

Fairy type saw an expansion and a rehaul a few generations ago, so things work a little differently to how they used to if you’re a legacy Pokemon fan who’s only just coming to Pokemon Sword and Shield right now after a long hiatus. 

If you’re looking to pick up a Fairy type Pokemon, or you’re wanting to even build a team around them, then you’ll want to know that the Fairy type weaknesses this generation are Poison and Steel. That’s right, you’re going to want to keep those fluffy little babies away from anything that looks even slightly venomous. By contrast, if you’re wanting to kick the ass of Fighting, Dark, and Dragon type Pokemon then you’re going to want some Fairy types in your party. Yeah, we’re not quite sure how that works theoretically but I suppose that something can out-cute another Pokemon to death. 

In any regard, you’re going to be encountering Fighting Pokemon pretty early in the game if you picked up Pokemon Sword – the fourth gym is home to a ton of Fighting monsters, so you’ll want to have at least one Fairy type in your party if you want success. There’s bound to be plenty on the way there, especially if you’re one to trawl through Wild Areas, so don’t stress too much about having to backtrack to flesh out your team.
