You can get a number of cool things from the Lectern of Enchantment in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – it’s not just Moon weapons falling out of your pockets left right and center. If you’re wanting some other Legendary items like Marks, you’re going to need to churn through some Lunar quests too. Check out our guide on finishing the Essence of Despair Destiny 2 quest, which also has some information about what reward is in store.

Essence of Despair Destiny 2 Guide – Quest Walkthrough

First things first, the Lectern’s the realest. By realest, we mean the only way to nab this bounty. Cleansing the Essence of Despair, or any Essence in this way, will award you with a piece of gear. In this case, it’s going to be the Dreambane Mark, which is a Legendary Titan mark.

You’re going to have to complete the following requirements in order to properly complete the Essence of Despair quest:

  • Possess 1 Phantasmal core – you can get this from other bounties or by accumulating Phantasmal Fragments
  • Fill out the Activities Completed bar – you can do this by participating in Public Events, Lost Sectors, and patrols on the Moon

We also would like to note that Destiny 2 mentions that the act of “collecting resources and looting chests” will also count towards your Activities Completed meter for the purposes of the Essence of Despair quest, but with a plethora of other activities to do on the Moon that don’t involve gallivanting around and looking for random chests to spawn, we’d recommend taking the killing approach. It’s much more straightforward, and you’ll have a better chance to acquire cool stuff along the way.

After you’ve filled up the Activities Completed meter for the Essence of Despair Destiny 2 quest and got the Phantasmal Core that you need, you’ll be able to return to the Lectern for the Dreambane Mark. This is a pretty easy Essence to cleanse, and anyone who’s checked out our list of Moon weapons will note that you’re not having to skulk around to pick up any hard-to-obtain items here.
