The Witcher Netflix series team has been hard at work, traversing the world to bring authenticity to a beloved fantasy franchise. While we still don’t have an official release date, luckily the new series is slated for a 2019 launch and even better for a potential reveal soon is that the showrunner herself, Lauren Hissrich, has confirmed that the filming has officially wrapped!
Hissrich took to her Instagram and Twitter to share the good news, all smiles as the production work to piece it all together commences. Hopefully, this means we’ll be getting a real trailer and launch date, which is even more likely with Netflix having their own showcase this year during E3 2019.
So far the only look we’ve seen at the upcoming show is a makeup and wig test shot of Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia. Since it wasn’t the full effect with special FX and full gear, many felt underwhelmed by the first look. Perhaps now that filming is done we’ll see a much more polished video, one with a fully battle-ready Geralt front and center.
With a tagline of “The Witcher Geralt, a mutated monster hunter, struggles to find his place in a world where people often prove more wicked than beasts,” we can’t help but to be completely excited for the upcoming 8 episode-long series! Fans are even warming up to the idea of Cavill as Geralt himself following numerous photos leaked of him on set and during his grueling training regime when getting in tip-top witcher shape.
The upcoming show stars Man of Steel’s Henry Cavill as the main protagonist himself, alongside Freya Allan as Ciri, Anya Chalotra as Yennefer, and Anna Shaffer as Triss Merigold. The author of the books himself is also on board with the project, working as the creative consultant for Hissrich’s vision.
