We’re only a few more days away from seeing Detective Pikachu hitting theaters worldwide, but Niantic is getting a jump on the pocket monster celebration with a special Pokemon GO event celebrating the cinematic release. The Pokemon GO Detective Pikachu event runs from May 7th until the 17th and will offer themed content from the movie itself including new raid bosses.

For those pokemon that are in the film, there will be a temporary increase in spawn rates to correlate. For those looking to score Charizard and more Pikachus, now is definitely the best chance! Even Mr. Mime is up for grabs, which is frankly just the best thing ever.

New Shinys and Detective Pikachu Raid Bosses and Field Research will also be arriving, giving players something new to experience within the AR mobile game.

Other features include:

  • Increased encounters with Pokémon seen in the movie.
  • The chance to be photobombed by and catch a Pikachu wearing a detective hat!
  • Select Pokémon featured in the movie will appear in raids.
  • Specially themed Field Research will be available for a limited time during this event.
  • Themed avatar items will be available in the Style Shop.
  • If you are lucky, you may encounter Shiny Aipom.
  • Double Catch XP for ALL Pokémon caught.

Ready to get started? The event is live starting today with the movie itself coming to theaters on May 10th.
