Only one month to go before Pokemon fans can see Detective Pikachu for themselves in theaters featuring a coffee-addicted Pikachu and some seriously hyper-realistic pocket monsters. The latest trailer for the upcoming film is taking a slightly different take when it comes to promotion. Instead of seeing more about the story, we get an adorable look at some “auditions” these cuddly little characters have to offer.
The cute new video starring some of our favorite Pokemon comes from actor Ryan Reynolds, who is playing Detective Pikachu himself. Seeing Pokemon like Venusaur, Dodrio, and Eevee in action once more is perfect and just goes to show that a lot of our early-on judgements might have been mislead.
When Detective Pikachu was first announced, fans everywhere groaned aloud about yet another live-action take on a childhood favorite. Then that opinion changed when the first trailer made its debut, and many saw that this movie could just be the one to nail that live-action formula on the head.
As for the movie itself, Detective Pikachu is slated for a theater release on May 10, 2019. For more about the film:
“The story begins when ace detective Harry Goodman goes mysteriously missing, prompting his 21-year-old son Tim to find out what happened. Aiding in the investigation is Harry’s former Pokémon partner, Detective Pikachu: a hilariously wise-cracking, adorable super-sleuth who is a puzzlement even to himself. Finding that they are uniquely equipped to communicate with one another, Tim and Pikachu join forces on a thrilling adventure to unravel the tangled mystery. Chasing clues together through the neon-lit streets of Ryme City–a sprawling, modern metropolis where humans and Pokémon live side by side in a hyper-realistic live-action world–they encounter a diverse cast of Pokémon characters and uncover a shocking plot that could destroy this peaceful co-existence and threaten the whole Pokémon universe.”
