Devil May Cry 5 hops between three main characters, and when playing as Nero you’ll soon want to know how to swap Devil Breakers, his powerful arm attachments. Unfortunately it’s not possible to swap Devil Breakers mid-fight, but there are some tricks you can use to plan ahead.
As you play through Nero’s sections you’ll find various Devil Breakers and also have the chance to buy them straight from Nico. Any you pick up will automatically fill the last available space on your list, meaning you’ll need to work through all the ones you have equipped before trying out your new toy.
Unfortunately it isn’t possible to swap between Devil Breakers during a fight, but you can still make sure you use the ones you want by learning how to swap and assign Devil Breakers at Nico’s Van.
Speaking with Nico, you’ll be able to choose the order of your Devil Breakers in the equipment tab. Whichever Devil Breaker you place in the first slot will be used in your first fight, and so forth. Try to plan the order a Devil Breakers for the fights you expect to encounter, though naturally this isn’t always possible. You can also multiple magazines so that you have different orders of Devil Breakers to choose from.
If you’re really keen to try out your latest Devil Breaker in the middle of a level, you can access it by destroying any of the Devil Breakers you have equipped ahead of it. This can be done by using LB or L1 for Xbox One and PS4, respectively. However, this will permanently destroy your currently equipped Devil Breaker, so we really don’t recommend doing this often. It’s worth remembering though as otherwise you’ll need to use your current Devil Breaker until it breaks, which can take some time.
You can use Red Orbs to buy additional Devil Breaker slots in the Skills tab up to a maximum of nine. These extra slots will let you bring even more Devil Breakers out on missions with you. You can’t do this from the start of the game, but more slots will open up for purchase the further you get through the story.
There are 12 total Devil Breaker types in Devil May Cry 5, though four of them are available only to those who’ve purchased the Deluxe Version of the game. Here’s the full list of what you can find:
