Today, developer Compulsion Games released a brand new gameplay trailer for their drug-fueled survival adventure, We Happy Few. Today’s trailer, titled “The ABCs of Happiness,” offers a glimpse at what life is like in We Happy Few’s cheerful dystopia, where hallucinogenic pills allow its inhabitants to live in a persistent state of denial. You can check out the colorful new trailer below.
We Happy Few is set in an alternate England in the fictional city of Wellington Wells, where residents are coaxed into taking hallucinogenic pills called Joy to escape from the harrowing nature of reality. Joy pills transform the grim, grey environment into one that is colorful and bright, altering the roadways and changing the facial expressions of the ‘downers’ around you.
As a citizen of Wellington Wells yourself, you must either keep a low profile and try to blend in with the city’s drug-induced residents, or you must fight for survival while attempting to subvert the system.
In We Happy Few, players experience the intertwined narratives of three residents of Wellington Wells who have chosen to rebel against the authorities that run the city, engaging in activities that go against the joyful status quo. Arthur, Ollie, and Sally each have distinct personalities with individual strengths and weaknesses. You can catch a glimpse at each of the three characters in today’s new trailer.
After facing several setbacks and delays, We Happy Few is currently scheduled to release on August 10, 2018 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, and will cost $59.99 USD.
