Wheat is a crucial resource for progressing through research upgrades, but at the same time it is needed for maintaining an animal farm in Solarpunk.

In this guide, we’ll show you where to get Wheat for your upgrades and how to sustain it properly for your animal feeds in Solarpunk.

Where to Get Wheat in Solarpunk

To get Wheat, you’ll need to upgrade your Airship to level 2 first. If you look at the image above, these are the first few islands that have Wheat and Wheat Seeds. So, you’ll have to go through the following trades from the Tradebots first:

  • 4x Watermelon
  • 12x Cotton
  • 20x Beeswax
  • 10x Watermelon
  • 32x Copper (unlocks airship research upgrade level 2)

Once you have the level 2 Airship, the two islands (one is an island cluster) will be reachable. The island cluster on the northeast should have around 3x Wheat nodes, which is definitely not enough. However, you’ll get the Wheat Seeds from picking them up anyway.

Grab all the Wheat and maybe some Quartz to turn into Silicon since you are already here.

When you start progressing a little more, you’ll realize that these Wheat Seeds aren’t enough to sustain your needs. First, you need Wheat for some of the trades. Next, you’ll need Wheat to make Animal Feed to feed your animals. Chickens consume them quickly, and you need to satisfy their needs to get Eggs from them, which makes Wheat crucial to your progression.

You can get more Wheat, but there’s a lot more you have to do.

How to Get More Wheat to Sustain Your Animal Farm in Solarpunk

First, when you get the Animal Basics Pack research and tame your first chicken, don’t try to feed the chickens yet. If you try to feed chickens with Animal Feed and you can never get their need to reach 10/10 hunger, you might not get any Eggs at all, which makes all the Animal Feed a waste.

You want to save all your Wheat to complete the 10x Wheat trade from the Tradebot (and maybe some research that needs Wheat). Next, you’ll still need to complete another trade, which is the 10x Bread. To make Bread, you need to make Dough using 3x Wheat on the workbench. Turn the Dough into Bread using a Furnace, which should require you to get at least 30x Wheat to get 10x Bread and finish the trade. This should take several days, maybe even a week, before you can finish this. If you are using Wheat for Animal Feed, you might never complete this even.

After finishing the trades, stockpile around 12-14 Wheat first before you start feeding a chicken. Now, if you have two chickens, you might want to stockpile more or get rid of the other chicken temporarily just so you can get the Eggs.

After stockpiling 6x Eggs, you can get the level 3 Airship upgrade from the Tradebot, which unlocks several islands to explore. The other islands should have a few more Wheat nodes, but still would not be enough to sustain your farm, especially with two or more chickens.

Your next goal is to progress and reach tier 6 at the Research Table, so you can unlock the Seedspack. The Seedspack research allows you to turn produce into seeds, finally making your farm have limitless potential. The Seedspack requires 1x Raspberry, 1x Cotton, 1x Wheat, 1x Carrot, and 1x Sunflower. The Carrot and Sunflower are on the new islands after reaching level 3 on your Airship.

Once you have this upgrade, focus on multiplying your Wheat Seeds, so you can fully sustain your animal farm from now on.
