Why would you need Cobalt to fix a vending machine?

Cobalt is a crucial mineral to unlock a lot of cool upgrades in Solarpunk. It is also used to fix the vending machine next to the Traderbot, so you’ll know about Cobalt pretty early in the game.

However, finding Cobalt is quite far into the game already, and here’s how and when you can find these Cobalt Ores in Solarpunk.

Where to Find Cobalt in Solarpunk

There are a few requirements before you can find Cobalt. If you have just landed on the Traderbot and found the vending machine that needs 1x Cobalt, you are still far away from getting it. Before finding Cobalt, you must level your Airship to level 3. That means you should have finished the following Traderbot trades:

  • 4x Watermelon
  • 12x Cotton
  • 20x Beeswax
  • 10x Watermelon
  • 32x Copper
  • 5x Silicon
  • 10x Wheat
  • 20x Cloth
  • 10x Bread
  • 6x Egg (unlocks the Airship Research Upgrade Level 3)

At this point, you should already have your Wheat farm, have found some Quartz to make Silicon, and have a chicken farm running. Once you have the level 3 Airship, you’ll unlock some islands on the north and south of your starting base.

Both new islands (upon reaching level 3 Airship) on the north should have a few Cobalt Ores, but these aren’t the Cobalt node (infinite spawn). The Cobalt node you can drill can be found on the big island to the south of the starting base, as seen in the image above.

Fly to the southern island and prepare to have tons of space in your inventory. The big island will also have a couple of Sunflowers, 5x Carrot spawns, 2x Cotton spawns, 1 Watermelon spawn, two chests, and even a pig to transport. While getting all of these resources and the seeds, you still want to stock up on Cobalt, so I suggest going with just some Wood, Sticks, Rocks, and your Pickaxe to capitalize on more inventory space.

Farm as many Cobalt Ores as you can. To turn the Cobalt Ores into Cobalt Bars, you just put them in the Furnace like all the other minerals.
