How to Get More Cotton in Solarpunk
Show me the Cotton.
Cotton is one of the most limited but important resources to farm early in Solarpunk. You need a lot of it early to progress and get some research upgrades, but it seems too hard to farm early as well.
Here’s a quick guide showing you how to get more Cotton early in the game and where else you can get more on the starting island in Solarpunk.
Where to Get More Cotton in Solarpunk

To get Cotton, look for the Cotton spawn (whitish plant as seen in the image above) on the starting island. There should be at least two that are reachable on foot when roaming around the island without anything unlocked yet. Picking up any of these Cotton nodes will give you 1x Cotton and 1x Cotton Seed.
Next, there are two high points in your starting island that are only reachable if you build a staircase going up with a Build Hammer (or with the Airship, but you don’t want to wait this long to get these). In total, you should have around four Cotton spawns, giving you 4x Cotton, but the important thing here is the 4x Cotton Seeds.
Since Cotton is used to research a lot of important upgrades in the Research Table like the Map, Dock, and many others, you want a lot of them fast. If you are only working with 2x Cotton Seeds, that’s going to take a long time and you’re going to be stuck doing nothing but farming other materials while waiting for the Cotton to grow, so pick the other Cotton nodes as soon as possible.

Next, you want to keep all the Cotton Seeds because resources here won’t overproduce seeds. If you plant one Cotton, you’ll always get 1x Cotton and 1x Cotton Seed, and that goes for all crops. In short, keep all the seeds.
When you progress a little more, the island to the northwest should have a few more Cotton nodes. After expanding or upgrading your Airship so you can reach farther areas, the next two islands should also have some Cotton as well. Cotton will still be used in the future, and if you want to look at the complete list of research and blueprint upgrades, check out this guide so you can prepare yourself early.
