Threads of Fate Makes Absolum An Even Better Action Game

Boss Rush is in!

Absolum was my favourite game of 2025. Punchy combat, superb art, and plenty of well-realised roguelite mechanics made it a rewarding experience to sink hours into, especially in co op. It has now received its first major update. Threads of Fate introduces even more challenges to satisfy my endgame cravings.

Corrupted Regions and Mystic Ordeals

When you reach the end of Absolum, there is still plenty to do. Whether it is beating the true final boss with every character or wrapping up side quests that lead to new paths, bosses to vanquish, and characters to meet, the game does not simply stop. With the 1.1 update, two major additions significantly shake up the endgame experience.

First, you can now choose to travel to corrupted regions on the map to face tougher enemies that also offer better rewards. If you are tired of mowing down simple mobs over and over, these regions will seriously test your mettle. They practically overwhelm you with enemies pulled from other regions, forcing you to use every tool in your kit just to survive.

Alongside that are Mystic Ordeals, which introduce gameplay preset modifiers that affect an entire run. This feature is clearly aimed at endgame players who have exhausted the main campaign and no longer find it challenging. You can even create your own modifiers and tailor runs to your liking.

Much like corrupted regions, Mystic Ordeals push you to understand the finer details of the combat system once you have already mastered character builds.

The Biggest Update Feature No One Is Talking About – Uncapped Framerate

This is a substantial update. Beyond corrupted regions and Mystic Ordeals, there are new emotes, new skins, and mounts that are now far more useful, capable of melting health bars. However, there is a far more important change that seems to have flown under the radar.

On PC, you can now play Absolum with an uncapped framerate, whereas it was previously locked to 60 FPS. The game already felt great to play, but it now feels exceptional in motion, especially if you are using a high refresh rate monitor.

The added motion clarity elevates the action significantly, and it is a notable improvement that I could not even find mentioned in the patch notes on Steam.

Guard Crush Games has done an incredible job supporting Absolum, and this free major update has breathed new life into the roguelite experience. I hope a paid expansion is planned for the future, ideally with a new character to learn and master. Even if it isn’t, Absolum offers a polished and compelling rogue-lite adventure with a lot to like, and Threads of Fate makes it even better.

When he isn't spending an unhealthy amount of time in Slay the Spire, he's probably trying out yet another retro-shooter or playing Dark Souls for the 50th time.
