How to Obtain a Watermelon Fragment in Starsand Island
Didn't know Gmax would be a thing here.
Obtaining a Watermelon Fragment or any of the Season Crop Fragments is one of the first steps to becoming an Intermediate Farmer in Starsand Island.
It teaches a farming mechanic that is a little tricky at first, but yields fragments when done correctly. Here’s how to obtain any of the Season Crop Fragments in Starsand Island.
How to Obtain Any Season Crop Fragments in Starsand Island

If you got the Intermediate Farmer quest using the Starsand Points, you’ll get a quest called “Become an Intermediate Farmer” with the following objectives:
Obtain one of the following Season Crop Fragments:
- Pineapple Fragment 0/1
- Watermelon Fragment 0/1
- Pumpkin Fragment 0/1
- Winter Melon Fragment 0/1
You can get any of these Fragments, depending on what is in season. Typically, you’ll need the Watermelon Fragment since you’ll most likely get this quest around the first Summer.
Each of these crops is offered exclusively in each season, so you’ll have a chance to finish the quest no matter what.
Buy any nine in-season seeds in the Happiness Seed Shop (Graminova). Go back to your farmland and till 9 plots next to each other in a 3×3 grid. Plant all Watermelon Seeds in a 3×3 grid and make sure the Weeds are taken care of so they all grow naturally at the same time. If you happen to leave Weeds to slow the growth, they might not grow together in time. You can also put a Rabbit Hutch nearby to clean out the Weeds.

When these Watermelons grow, you’ll automatically get a Gmax Watermelon, which is basically a gigantic Watermelon. Chop it down with an Hatchet, and you should get a Watermelon Fragment, along with Watermelons and some seeds.
Now, if you do 3×3-type farming again to get a Gmax, it only has a low chance of happening. When the quest is active, the Gmax crop showed up immediately, but it could’ve been a coincidence as well.
Keep trying to do any in-season Gmax crop until you get one and finish the quest. Getting these Gmax crops to grow is also very profitable in the long run, but it requires a bit more work to set up, which should be worth it.
