I have to be honest, I’m not the biggest fan of the Bullet Heaven genre, since most games feel too similar or fail to stand out. The announcement trailer for Australia Did delivers the kind of evolution and fresh direction I have been wanting to see for a long time.

Blending a range of genres, Australia Did It describes itself as a “tactical reverse bullet hell,” and it all makes sense once you watch the orientation video.

Australia Did It Orientation Trailer

With so much happening in a single run of Australia Did It, some clarity is needed, and the trailer released by the studio does a pretty good job of explaining everything:

It seems like the game blends turn-based tactical strategy (this is before your train actually leaves the station), tower defense, with evolving units that can merge into new ones, and then throws in this bullet hell train section where your survival is optional.

Somehow, it all comes together into a kind of bullet heaven experience I haven’t seen before. Delivering and defending the cargo through hostile terrain is the core of each of these individual components.

According to the Steam page, there are over 1500+ possible combinations across different unit types, and you’re encouraged to constantly experiment for something fun.

Australia Did It Playtest

The developers have confirmed that players can try out the game themselves and provide valuable feedback next month, in December, by signing up for the playtest. You can do this by visiting the Steam page for it and clicking the “Request Access” button.

Australia Did It is set to release sometime in 2026 on PC via Steam. With so many genres being blended, I’m hoping it comes together as a cohesive experience that’s fun to pick up and play. I’m also curious how long each run will last, given the number of stages in each. Rami Ismail is no stranger to blending genres, and there is a lot to like in the few trailers for this game so far.
