Hawken is one of those highly enjoyable mech games where you don’t have to worry so much about stocking up on ammo, as much as you do laying waste to enemy mechs alongside your buddies. It’s all a matter of finding the best weapons for the job.
There are plenty of primary and secondary guns to choose from, so here are the best weapons in Hawken.
Primary Weapons in Hawken
The primary weapon is the one you’ll get the most use out of in Hawken, mounted on your left arm. Most of the weapons deliver a high rate of fire and consistent damage, even though it’s not as powerful as the secondary weapons. You also don’t need to worry about finding ammunition, so much as keeping an eye on your heat gauge. The higher it builds, the less you’ll be able to fire. This applies to both types of weapons.
Hawken’s primary weapons include the following categories:
Assault Rifle – These weapons have a decent rate of fire and damage. The AM-SAR is a good place to start when it comes to getting used to this class, although the general Assault Rifle also does well when you control it in short bursts. You can also use the Redox-02 to deliver increased damage in a short duration of time, so make those shots count.
Missiles – The Seeker and the Twin Seeker are great for players who want to deliver wonton destruction to their opponents. Both can fire several missiles at a time, some with heat-seeking capabilities. Between the two, however, the Seeker is the best, mainly due to its higher rate of fire. Keep in mind, though, that targeting is not very effective at close range.
Shotguns – If you prefer short, powerful blasts, there are plenty of effective guns to choose from. The T32-Bolt is a fine choice if you want to deliver charged blasts at enemies. The ReFLAK-35 also has a high rate of fire, and its bullets can bounce off surfaces, making for some good rebound fire if you can’t get a direct lock.
Long-Range – Finally, if you want to snipe, there are the long-range rifles. The best one for the job is the SA Hawkins, an automatic rifle that has terrific accuracy from a distance. Plus, its repeat fire enables you to score multiple hits on a foe before they have a chance to run for cover. The Slug Rifle is also a good gun to bring along.
Secondary Weapons
These more powerful Hawken tools of the trade sit on the mech’s right arm, and deliver a greater deal of damage than your primary one. However, they fire a bit slower and tend to overheat a little bit more, so save them for when you’re in close-range combat scenarios.
There are less secondary weapons to choose from than primary in Hawken, but here are our best picks for the job!
SAARE Launcher- Ever see a gun that can transform heat into high explosive projectiles? Think of the SAARE like a really cool solar gun, one that can fry enemies. It has zero heat generation, though its low rate of fire makes it a weapon you want to use when an enemy gets within your range.
Twin Seeker – Yes, this is a Primary Weapon, but you can use the Twin Seeker as a Secondary as well, allowing it to complement whatever rifle or other weapon you’re using. Its missiles will certainly come in handy alongside the general rate of fire.
PPA- In addition to being featured as a Primary Weapon, the PPA best serves as a secondary. It’s a rotary cannon that takes a little time to build up (mainly due to the need to get the turret spinning), but once it does, has incredible accuracy and damage to its credit. Be careful, though – it can build up heat in a hurry.
Grenade Launcher- Want to make a big bang, but maybe use a little more finesse compared to the rocket launcher? The grenade launcher is the next best thing. Even with a low rate of fire, this gun has splendid accuracy, and does a modest amount of damage to foes. The Rev-GL is also a good choice, with more effective range and a slightly better rate of fire. (It gets a bit hotter, though.)
Be sure to experiment with these weapons in Hawken and find the best ones that suit you.
