Health in Hawken

Accept the fact that you will take damage early and often. Even if you think you have a bead on enemies and can take them out quickly, you’ll still take a few shots. With that, you want to make sure you heal up.

Use your healing ability whenever you find a safe spot, so you can assure that your robot won’t explode. Additionally, when some enemies are destroyed, they’ll leave behind health that you can pick up in the form of yellow orbs. You can also spot these on your mini-map, marked in white. Collect these so you don’t have to worry about healing.

Moving in Hawken

Your mech can take some getting used to, so try to learn the basics of combat first. The 180-spin ability, for instance, is ideal if you have someone bearing down on you. By using it, you’ll be able to get a lock on them and fire away before they have a chance to unload their arsenal.

Also, you’ll have access to boosting and jump thrusting. These will increase your overall maneuverability on the map, allowing you to not only get places faster, but also gain some height if you want to attack someone from above. Just keep a couple of things in mind.

First, you don’t want to go too crazy with the boost. Try to save it when you absolutely need it, or else you may leave yourself vulnerable to an attack.

Second, whenever you use boosting or jump thrusting, you’ll give away your current location on a map, and that will enable an enemy to spot you, and provide said location to teammates. Use it when you least need it, so you can retain your positioning throughout each match in Hawken.

Finally, remember your vertical height limit. You don’t want to go too far when it comes to flying off the ground. Use it enough to reach a higher point (like a rooftop or a freeway overpass) so you can gain better stature on an opponent.

Remembering Team Tactics in Hawken

Stick with your squad. The more firepower on your side, the better!

If you become overwhelmed, make a run for it and find some cover, or more importantly, track down a teammate. There’s plenty of cover to go around, but remember to not stay in one place for too long. Don’t forget the higher ground, either.

Your radar will be your best friend when it comes to enemy positioning. While their location isn’t always given away, you’ll get a better idea of where they are so you and your teammates can plan an attack. However, the same can be said for you, so don’t get too cocky and give away your position that quickly in Hawken – unless, of course, you like dying.

Do not try going lone wolf – we cannot repeat this enough. You’ll get bombarded quickly not only by enemies, but also plenty of TOW rocket or grenade attacks. Before you know it, your mech will be trashed and you’ll have to start fresh. Staying with a team will help you survive.

Hawken’s a lot of fun, and once you get used to the basics, you’ll find that it’s a great team-building game as well. Plus, it’s free-to-play, so it costs nothing to try. Have at it, and use these Hawken tips to dominate the competition.
