Rainbow Six Siege GIGN Operators – Doc, Montagne, Rook, Twitch

Get some inside tactics for the operators from the French special operations unit!
This article is over 9 years old and may contain outdated information

With 20 operators in Rainbow Six Siege it can be difficult to determine who to unlock first and eventually, which operators you want to focus on. This article covers the four operators of the French special operations unit, Doc, Montagne, Rook and Twitch. Montagne and Twitch are offensive operators available when attacking a target, while Doc and Rook are defensive operators.

Doc

  • Armor: Heavy
  • Speed: Slow
  • Primary Weapons: SG-CQB, MP5
  • Secondary Weapons: P9, LFP586
  • Generic Gadgets: Barbed Wire, Deployable Shield
  • Unique Gadget: MPD-0 Stim Pistol

If Doc’s name wasn’t explanatory enough, he is the field medic in Rainbow Six Siege. His unique gadget is the MPD-0 Stim Pistol which allows him to get teammates back up after they’ve been downed. The big advantage here is that he can do it from a distance since he’s using a stim pistol, and when Doc brings you back from the brink of death, you come back with 75 health instead of the normal 50 health. That extra 25 points of health can mean the difference between life and death or between winning and losing a round.

In order for Doc to be as effective as possible, he should generally be coupled with Rook for the additional armor he provides. This armor will help your teammates last a bit longer in a fire fight so Doc can get over there and heal them. With Doc you don’t have to cross the line of fire to get to someone who’s been downed. As long as you have a clear line of sight you can get them back up and with a bit more health than normal. Doc can even bring himself back from the brink!

Montagne

  • Armor: Heavy
  • Speed: Slow
  • Primary Weapons: Ballistic Shield
  • Secondary Weapons: P9, LFP586
  • Generic Gadgets: Stun Grenade, Smoke Grenade
  • Unique Gadget: Le Roc Extendable Shield

Montagne is not the only operator in Rainbow Six Siege with a riot shield, but his shield is a bit more unique than Blitz. While Blitz has a flash-bang on his riot shield, Montagne has a shield that extends. One of the main problems with riot shield operators is that you can shoot their feet to take them out fairly quickly. Montagne has the ability to extend his shield to cover his feet so that’s not an option. This makes him ideal for heading into rooms first with other team members directly behind him.

While slow, Montagne does have heavy armor, so even without his shield he can take some damage. Keep in mind, while the shield is extended Montagne cannot use his other weapons so you’ll be relying on your teammates to cover your back and take down any enemies in the immediate area. Use him as the tank to enter a room with protection and figure out where the opposing team is hiding.

Rook

  • Armor: Heavy
  • Speed: Slow
  • Primary Weapons: P90, MP5
  • Secondary Weapons: P9, LFP586
  • Generic Gadgets: Deployable Shield, Barbed Wire
  • Unique Gadget: R1N “Rhino” Armor

Rook gives your team extra armor plating. During the preparation round Rook should drop a bag of armor and every party member should pick up a supply. The extra armor increases your armor rating by one level, so if you have light armor, it will increase that to medium armor. In addition it gives you a higher chance of going down by not out instead of simply dying. For this reason using Rook and Doc on the team is a dynamic duo of awesomeness because your teammates will go down more often (instead of dying), giving Doc a chance to revive them back to 75 health with his stim pistol.

While Rook’s armor isn’t a sure fire way to stay alive, generally speaking it should allow teammates to take one or two more bullets (head shots aside). Once again, it’s best to pair Rook with Doc and keep Doc close to other teammates so they can be most effective. The extra armor is great, but it won’t always prevent death, so make sure you play carefully even with Rook’s unique gadget.

Twitch

  • Armor: Medium
  • Speed: Medium
  • Primary Weapons: G2, 417
  • Secondary Weapons: P9, LFP586
  • Generic Gadgets: Breach Charge, Smoke Grenade
  • Unique Gadget: RSD Model 1 Shock Drone

Twitch’s unique gadget is a little underwhelming at higher levels of play. It’s a shock drone that works very similar to a normal drone, but with the added ability shock enemies or traps. If you shock an enemy it inflicts minor damage, while shocking a trap generally disables the trap. You can use it to distract an enemy while a teammate takes them out, but otherwise it’s not all that effective.

For novice players this can be a great way to locate and remove traps so your teammates aren’t dying by tripping them. However, at higher levels of play most people are already looking for traps and rarely get caught by them. In addition, even the shock drone is easy to take out if you have good aim and you’re paying attention to your surroundings.
