Crytek Channels Left 4 Dead with Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age

Blast zombies and other monsters in this intense co-op shooter.

Similar to all media, comparisons in the video game world are inevitable, so when Crytek revealed its new PC and console video game featuring four unique characters set to kill hordes of zombies and other terrors, we immediately thought Left 4 Dead in the 1800s.

Of course, you’d be mistaken to think this is a bad thing, or that Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age shares many similarities with Valve’s celebrated shooting series. Details are scarce at such an early period in the game’s advertising push, but from what we’ve read, Hunt has potential.

The first piece of art does in fact show four characters, but there may be more. This debut effort from Crytek USA Corp. features co-op set in a more historical period, and it also comes with a content generation system that in theory will prevent players from encountering the same environment or set of enemies twice.

Not much to go on, true, but Hunt: Horrors of the Gilded Age will be at next week’s 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), so expect plenty of information in the days ahead. For now, here’s the first teaser, and sign up for the Hunt beta here.
