First Steps to Unlock Mounts in New World: Aeternum

Starting off as a Level 0 in New World: Aeternum means you will have to grind your way up to Level 20 to unlock the mount quest. The mount quest must be completed to unlock and use your mount. Once you reach Level 20, the mount quest will automatically pop up on your quest list.

Located in North Everfall on the borders of Everfall and Brightwood, you must visit the Horse Whisperer Jochi Khan at his Stable Inn. He’ll introduce you to the lore of “Beast Lords” in Aeternum and propose the quest: “My Kingdom For A Horse“.

  • After talking to Jochi Khan, there will be a marker leading you to a cave on your right, approximately 160m from the Stable Inn.
  • Enter the cave.
  • Commune with the Beast Lords at the mural (blue glow).

  • A Beast Lord by the name of Shirzad tells you that you must collect an offering for the mount.
  • On your left, there is a crevice. Enter it and harvest the azoth infused oats that lay on the ground in front of another mural.
  • Once harvested, exit the cave to search for a horse to mount.
  • As you exit the cave, a beautiful setting unfolds. You stand in front of a lake, with a marker atop a horse to your right, basking in the moonlight glow.

  • Head over and feed the horse the azoth-infused oats to begin forming a bond.
  • Once fed, the horse will begin to walk away and disappear.
  • Head back to Jochi Khan’s stable. Talk to him and complete the quest.

Upon completing the quest you will receive a horse named Moonshadow as a reward, also unlocking the ability to summon and ride your mount. Jochi Khan then proposes another quest: “Hermit’s Rally“. This is a practice race to get you used to summoning and riding a mount.

  • Initially, a mount will be automatically equipped (The Corrupted Mauler – Bear).

In the Mount menu, you will see that there are four different types of mounts, namely Horses, Dire Wolves, Lions, and Bears.

  • Change your mount to Moonshadow the Horse.
  • Ride to the starting line.
  • There are eight checkpoints to ride to, with a time limit between each.

Tip: Stay on the path. Going off the path significantly slows down your horse.

  • Once you complete the race, go back to Jochi Khan. He will now tell you about keeping your horse healthy and strong.
  • Accept the quest he proposes: “Hungry As A Horse“.

A series of time trials will also pop up in your quest list:

  • King’s Road Tour
  • Radiant Hills Rally
  • Dogma Tour
  • Stolen Shores Rally
  • Ghosts and Groves Tour

Note: There are two types of time trials, namely, Rallies and Tours. While a Rally has a series of checkpoints with time limits in between each, a Tour has one checkpoint (the endpoint) with a longer time limit afforded to the player). Tours require players to plot their fastest course to reach the endpoint before beginning.

Below, we have a guide in chronological order on where to find each of these rallies.

Radiant Hills Rally

This is the closest rally to Jochi Khan’s Stable Inn. As you make your way out of Jochi Khan’s Stable Inn, turn left and continue on the path. A marker will pop up, leading you to a Rally Board. Read the Rally Board and accept the mount quest: Radiant Hills Rally.

The starting line will be on your left. Summon Moonshadow and beat the time trial.

Completing this time trial will give you 15300 EXP, and you will reach Level 49 in Riding skill.

Dogma Tour

Your next rally is approximately 2 km from where you ended the Radiant Hills Rally. Ride to Daybreak Borough in Everfall. It is directly outside the Syndicate Headquarters. Read the Rally Board and accept the mount quest: “Dogma Tour“.

Stay aware, for the Corrupted on the farm next to the Rally Board are above Level 20 and won’t waste time in taking a shot at you.

The starting line will be at the foot of the hill you came up on. Your destination: Covenant Shrine (Nettlerest Graveyard) in Everfall.

The next two rallies are close to the Oxboro Village settlement in Everfall. You can either recall to Jochi Khan’s Stable Inn or fast travel to the point nearest to the time trials.

King’s Road Tour

Upon reaching Oxboro Village, check in at the inn. Due to there being two time trials here, it’ll be easier to recall back to the Oxboro Village Inn once you’ve completed the first.

After exiting from the Western gate of Oxboro Village settlement, the Rally Board will be a short walk up the hill. Read the Rally Board and accept the mount quest: “King’s Road Tour“.

The starting line will be on the path towards the left of the Rally Board. Your destination: Prydwen Castle in Monarch’s Bluff. This should be familiar to new players as Monarch’s Bluff is where you spend most of your time at the beginning of your Aeternum journey.

Completing this time trial will give you 15300 EXP, and you will reach Level 71 in Riding skill.

The Rally Board is directly across the fast travel point, at the foot of the hill. Read the Rally Board and accept the mount quest: “Ghosts and Groves Tour“.

The starting line is just up the hill on the bend. Your destination: Calvary Hamlet in Brightwood.

Recall back to Jochi Khan’s Stable Inn to complete the quest. He will tell you about a man named Francois in Weaver’s Fen, a skilled horseman to challenge. But, he warns you to be wary of trusting him.

And that, my dear friends, completes the Jochi Khan story for now. Mounts add speed and convenience to the exploration of Aeternum. By following this guide, you will unlock Moonshadow the Horse, level up your riding skills quickly, and secure some impressive rewards. So saddle up and start experiencing the exhilarating feeling of dashing across Aeternum with ease. The adventure is only beginning. Happy riding!
