WoW Adds a Better Brutosaur Mount For a Whopping $90

The long boi finally returns!

There are a handful of rare mounts in World of Warcraft, but none are rarer than the Reins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur mount. It is not rare because it is hard to get, but rather, it isn’t available. The mount was available during the World of Warcraft: Battle for Azeroth expansion, and it was sold for a whopping five million gold through a vendor.

After patch 9.0.1, they removed the Brutosaur mount from the vendor and added it occasionally to the Black Market Auction House, which is a time-based rotating shop that offers rare items that players can bid for. Everyone wanted the mount so badly that they would subscribe to WoW just to check the auction house.

Now, WoW has introduced an even better mount, the Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur, for a whopping $90, available until January 6, 2025. But, why is this so significant and is causing a bit of an uproar in the WoW community?

Why Do Players Yearn for the Brutosaur Mount in World of Warcraft?

It comes as no surprise that most hardcore WoW players who have enough gold during the Reins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur mount’s release automatically bought the mount. The Brutosaur mount includes one of the most useful NPCs in the game, the auctioneer. By having an auctioneer wherever you can freely mount, you have instant access to almost any item, as long as you have a mailbox with you.

This quality-of-life feature gives players the ability to craft next to professional trainers and easily access an auctioneer with their mounts whenever they need more items.

The same goes for going into raids and dungeons and forgetting useful consumables like elixirs, food buffs, potions, Vantus Runes, and more. Not only do they have this feature for themselves, but they can also help other party members, guild members, and random raid players to get what they need by accessing your auctioneer through the Brutosaur mount.

Most players already know how good this would be, but the five million gold price tag isn’t anything to scoff at. You’ll have to farm thousands of hours using the most profitable farming strategies or gold-making professions to reach that level. Some actually tried to farm and hoped they would reach five million gold in a year or two. However, most players didn’t make it through.

The Reins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur Mount Gets Removed From the Vendor

When the Reins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur mount got removed from the vendor, everyone started questioning Blizzard themselves if they were going to bring it back. This was constantly a question in Blizzard forums, Reddit posts, and more for each expansion. They never gave an answer.

Since the Reins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur mount is still offered as a rare commodity in the Black Market Auction House, players waited for every reset until it showed up with their five million gold ready. However, it never showed up for most players when they were playing.

Each realm has a different Black Market Auction House offering, so some players even max out characters in other realms to have a better chance of finding it. When it does show up, players still fight against each other in a bidding war, and it costs upwards of six million gold.

Keep in mind that the game has WoW Tokens, with which players may buy gold with real money straight from the Blizzard store. A WoW Token from around 2022 to today would average around 220,000 – 280,000 gold per WoW Token. A WoW Token can be bought for $20 and get that amount of gold. If you convert it to five million gold, you are paying nearly $400 for just the gold cost of the Brutosaur mount.

Blizzard Releases the Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur Mount

On October 24, 2024, Blizzard released the Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur mount, which has a slight recolor but offers something better than the coveted Reins of the Mighty Caravan Brutosaur mount—it comes with an auctioneer and a mailbox. It comes at a low price of $90. However, it is only considered low when you compare it to the $400 Brutosaur mount, and it even provides more utility.

But when you think about it, the $90 in-game shop Brutosaur mount is by far their most expensive store mount ever. While some would rejoice that they can buy it for cheap, those who spent six years or more trying to find the mount and maybe who eventually bought will feel a bit ripped off. I mean, they could’ve sold their gold and converted it into Blizzard balance and maybe gotten six or seven of the latest games in their store.

It is just something so unexpected. Some might think it is a greedy move, which is fair. But, you can also think of it as, if they released it back as a vendor mount for the same price, they could’ve probably made more money with players spending way more to buy some WoW Tokens.

The Trader’s Gilded Brutosaur is an exclusive in-game store mount that will be available only until January 6, 2025.
