Flint Skinning Knife

First up, the Flint Skinning Knife. The first of six tools to collect, the Flint Skinning Knife is made out of flint and green wood, perfect for skinning the animals you’ve hunted.

After defeating Corrupted Captain Thorpe in the game’s prologue, you wash up to the shores of Aeternum, where Fallen King Aelstrom is fighting off a Corrupted.

  • Go and speak to Aelstrom and accept the quest: Basic Needs.
  • Gather flint from the ground – it looks like a rock.
  • Gather wood from a bush.
  • Go to Urda’s campfire.
  • Craft the Flint Skinning Knife
  • Talk to Urda to complete the quest.

Flint Harvesting Sickle

So, you’ve got your Flint Skinning Knife, and you’re stacking up some rawhide and red meat. Now what? All that meat’s gonna need some flavor.

To gather that flavor, you will need to probe the vast wilderness of Aeternum, foraging for plants, herbs, fruit, nuts, and other mystical flora, each with its unique special effects. These resources allow you to craft healing potions, food seasoning, and so much more.

Upon completing the quest, Demon Storm, speak to Aelstrom back at Urda’s campfire.

  • Accept the quest proposed by Urda: Bearer of Bad Tidings
  • On the road to Prydwen, you will come across a man with black hair, standing next to a fallen carriage, with a yellow marker atop his head, his name is Hapless Howe.
  • Speak to Travelling Herbalist Hapless Howe.
  • Accept his proposed quest: Truffle Fever, and Hapless Howe will lend you his sickle to use for the quest.
  • Further down the road, in the direction of Prydwen, yellow markers will appear in the bush, leading you to the truffles.
  • Gather five truffles.
  • Continue to Prydwen, as Hapless Howe has now moved there.
  • Before entering, you’ll speak to Ser Payne Bennett at the entrance; thereafter, enter Prydwen.
  • As you enter, take your first right, where Hapless Howe will be waiting for you.
  • Speak to him to complete the quest, and he will reward you with his Flint Harvesting Sickle.

Journeyman’s Pickaxe

One thing about Aeternum, it’s lush with valuable flora and minerals. Fill your bag with all that Aeternum has to offer, from stone to iron ore and even silver; these resources will help you craft weapons and armor for the battles ahead.

To get started, you’ll need a reliable pickaxe. And there’s no better place to find a reliable pickaxe than the Cynefin Mines.

Upon meeting the Knight-Regent for the first time in Prydwen Keep, accept the quest proposed by her: Foreman’s Fate

  • Speak to Minister Lochnir before heading to Cynefin Mine.
  • Upon reaching Cynefin Mine, you meet Forman Allya Musa, fighting off a Corrupted individual.
  • Talk to her, and she will propose the quest: Crisis At The Mines
  • Search the mine to rescue Shazaan Cortis, Tomira Dudek, and Chandu Iyer.
  • After rescuing them, search for Elias Derit.
  • Talk to him to complete the quest and receive the Journeyman’s Pickaxe.

Now that you’ve acquired the pickaxe, you can mine ore and stone to your heart’s content. But your bag’s likely filling up quickly because you’re a master miner and gatherer! Don’t let your resources weigh you down. All you need is a satchel to carry that extra weight. Having a reliable bag can be the difference between running and being run over, literally.

Regent’s Satchel

Speak to Mine Supervisor Elias Derit to complete the quest: A Most Mysterious Tablet at Hiraeth Peak.

  • Accept the quest proposed by Elias Derit: Fragments of Truth
  • Return to Prydwen Keep to report back to Knight-Regent Jin Jae.
  • Speak to Knight-Regent Jin Jae to complete the quest and receive the satchel as a reward.

With the Regent’s Satchel now in your possession, you’ll have more space to carry all your essential (and non-essential) items, because deep down, there’s a hoarder inside us all.

Tip: If you have too many resources in your bag, you cannot run or jump. Your bag has a weight limit, so you’ll need to stop and drop items, or go to the shop to make space. Better yet, you can offload items at the Storage in nearby towns.

Logging Wood Axe

Now what about a campsite? Well, you need wood, and the easiest way to gather wood is by chopping down trees. Introducing the Logging Wood Axe. It’s time to tap into your inner lumberjack!

After completing the quest: Source of the Plague, Knight-Regent Jin Jae proposes the quest: Knight in the North, where you must go to Brysedd Shore and assist Ser Payne Bennett in confronting Lost pirates (and we’re not talking about directions).

  • Accept the quest and head to Brysedd Shore.
  • Once you arrive, talk to Ser Payne.
  • He recounts your heroics at Cynefin Mine and suggests that you build a campsite for yourself.
  • Gather flint and green wood to build your camp.
  • Once built, you can craft and respawn there.
  • Craft a Logging Wood Axe at your camp.

Now that you’ve crafted your Logging Wood Axe, you’re ready to chop down trees and gather essential resources for building, crafting, and expanding your base.

Tip: Having a campsite set up as your respawn point can make your journey much smoother when you’re far from town.

How to get the Beginner’s Fishing Pole

You’ve equipped yourself well, and you’re ready to take on Aeternum’s challenges one tree at a time. With all that honest work, you’ve earned some downtime. What better way to relax than fishing? To begin your journey as an angler, you’ll need a fishing pole. With all the rivers, lakes and shores that flourish across Aeternum, it’s a fishing haven for any fish-loving folk.

Once you’ve met the Knight-Regent Jin Jae at Preiddeu Farms, head towards the dam. A yellow marker will be atop a woman by the name of Perronelle Le Noir.

  • Talk to Peronnelle and accept the quest she proposes: To Unpathed Waters.
  • Search the nearby Bulrushes around the water for Firefly Bait.
  • Once you have enough (3), go and talk to Perronelle again.
  • Complete the quest, and she will give you the Beginner’s Fishing Pole.
  • She then proposes the following quest: And Undreamed Shores
  • You can learn how to equip your fishing pole, cast your fishing pole, hook some fish, and reel them in.

From skinning animals and gathering herbs to chopping down trees and mining for ore, living off the land (and water) in New World: Aeternum is part of the journey (and the fun). With these essential tools, you’ll have everything you need to succeed in the wilderness of Aeternum.

And with that, we bid you adieu, happy gathering, crafting, and trading, oh citizen of Aeternum. May your journey be as glorious as Ser Gawain’s voyage across the deep blue sea!
