How to Beat Homo Jaluzo in Metaphor ReFantazio

What a cruel story this is...

While there are many bosses in Metaphor: ReFantazio, Homo Jaluzo is considered the second main boss of the game. Since the encounter caps off the Martira storyline and brings you a new member to the party, the Homo Jaluzo boss is a bit more difficult than the other bosses. Here’s how to beat Homo Jaluzo in Metaphor ReFantazio and clear Heismay’s name.

Homo Jaluzo Attack Moveset

Homo Jaluzo has several dangerous attacks in the entire encounter. However, its most dangerous attacks always have a warning since it takes one turn to charge up. The attack sequence is a combination of Watchful Gaze and Jumping Playtime. It’ll use Watchful Gaze, signifying it will attack everyone on the next turn. After your turn has ended, Jumping Playtime will hit everyone for high damage.

When it does Watchful Gaze, you want to use “Guard” on every player. Using Guard will take your whole turn, so you must keep your party’s health above 100HP. If you have the latest armor from the shop, you might need more HP. This is why a Healer archetype is crucial to your party.

You want to use Medi to heal all allies in a single skill and keep everyone up. It’ll be hard to keep everyone up if you also take too much damage from normal attacks. Keep in mind that the boss is level 30. If you are underleveled, it’ll be an even harder fight.

On most of Homo Jaluzo’s turns, it’ll use Eager Bite, which does medium piercing damage to a party member, and use Stare and Deafening Din to inflict Daze or lower your party’s defenses, respectively.

Sometimes it does Eager Bite to a single party member multiple times, which is very unlucky. If this happens when your party’s defenses are lowered, you might lose a party member. This is unlikely to happen, and if you have the strongest armor from the shop, you won’t have a problem unless your party already has low HP.

The trick is to always use Medi even if only two party members need the healing. This guarantees that your party is always healthy and you won’t rely on luck anymore. However, if you didn’t rest up before the fight and your party’s MP is much lower, you’ll need to be more conservative or use some Magla Pills or any MP recovery items before the fight. A good MP number would be around 120-150 for everyone.

Homo Jaluzo Boss Guide | Offensive Strategies

For offense, Homo Jaluzo doesn’t have any weaknesses, but it doesn’t have any resistances either. During the fight, you have the option to target Homo Jaluzo or one of its two eyeballs. Each eye has a resistance to slashes but is weak to piercing damage. Because of this, your suggested party should have the following:

  • Gunner or any piercing attacks
  • Healer
  • Flexible (heal and damage)
  • Any archetype that has “extreme X damage to one target” skill

With this party setup, you can fully sustain your party with a mix of defensive and offensive skills. This is your typical party setup with a mix of the best archetypes in the game. There are two strategies for the fight. One where you completely ignore the eyes and attack the boss or keep destroying the eyes to weaken its attacks.

The eyes allow the boss to use attacks like Focused Aim and Watchful Gaze. Both of them lead to devastating attacks. Focused Aim is just the same as Watchful Gaze, but it only targets a single player instead of the whole party, which forces you to use Guard and keep them healthy on that specific player.

Phase 3 – Homo Jaluzo 10-20%

Your main strategy revolves around using your synthesis skills that deal extreme damage to the boss and using high-damage skills when your team is healthy. When your team is low, you use Medi, mostly after getting hit by Joyful Playtime.

When the boss reaches around 10-20% HP, the mother will use Mother’s Love, healing both eyes for 1,000 HP and the boss for 2,440 HP. It takes up one whole enemy turn, so it doesn’t really matter. It only matters if you are starting to run out of MP.

Keep doing the same strategy, hit the boss, and use your healer to AoE heal. If you are hitting the eyes, make sure to have some piercing damage on your party because it is not worth it if you can’t capitalize on its weakness.
