How To Research And Unlock Augments In Black Ops 6 Zombies

Research and equip Augments for extra punch in the combat.

In Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, Augments enhance your combat abilities by adding unique effects to Perks, Ammo Mods, and Field Upgrades, giving you a powerful edge in Zombies mode. This feature brings a new level of strategy as you push for longer rounds. However, unlocking new Augments requires researching them first—and in this guide, we will walk you through exactly how to do it.

To research an Augment, players will need to equip one by selecting the “Research Augment” button located inside the “Weapon” section tab.

All Perk-a-Colas, Field Upgrades, and Ammo Mods come with three major and three minor Augments. The Major ones are colored with blue icons, and the minor ones are colored with yellow icons on the menu screen.

You can equip one Research Augment at a time from Perk-a-Colas, Field Upgrades, and Ammo Mods. Once your desired research is selected, the next step is to start a round on Terminus or Liberty Falls and earn as much XP as possible.

Some part of earned XP will also contribute towards the research. However, if you equip the component you are trying to research for, it will speed up the process. This means that if you are researching Augments for the Energy Mine, then make sure your loadout is equipped with the Energy Mine Field Upgrade and you are using it frequently in the field as well.

Since there are a lot of components with major and minor augments, we recommend you do not skip on using the particular component in the field and advance the research faster.

Can You Track Augment Research Progress?

You cannot track the progression for the Augment you are researching while playing a round. However, playing solo gives you the option to pause the game, quit, and return to the main menu.

Only this method will allow you to see how far you have progressed and equipped Augment. You can switch to a different Augment mid-round after returning to the main menu, and any XP earned afterward will apply toward the new Augment you have selected.

How to Equip Researched Augments in Call of Duty: Black Ops 6

In the Research Augments screen, the golden XP bar tracks your progression through each major and minor component. Once the bar passes an icon, that Augment unlocks and is ready to equip. The game does not give you a notification for this, so you have to check yourself manually.

Once you see a few of the major and minor Augments unlocked for Ammo Mods, Perk-a-Colas, or Field Upgrade, go to the Augments menu and equip these by slotting the unlocked Augment into the available slot.

NOTE: Perk-a-Colas and Ammo Mods can be slotted with three major and three minor Augments. However, the Field Upgrades only have one major and one minor Augment to slot an upgrade in them.
