Get that Crop Sample and be ready to get one out of four unique rewards.

In Remnant 2’s Dark Horizon DLC, there are several missable items, many of which are tied to completing specific quests in different ways. Choosing one path often means missing out on certain rewards, and the Crop Sample is one of those tricky items. This guide will walk you through how to obtain the Crop Sample and explore all the ways you can use it.

To get the Crop Sample, head to the Detritus Foundry. Near the end of this dungeon, just before you face the N’Erudian Reaper boss, you’ll encounter a section where the Crop Sample can be found, along with two out of four potential locations where it can be used.

Once inside the Detritus Foundry, continue progressing until you reach the World Stone. Nearby, you’ll come across a large circular area that’s close to the dungeon’s entrance—this is where you’ll find the Crop Sample.

After obtaining the Crop Sample, head to the lower floor beneath the circular section, where two statues stand over the soil. To get there, use the elevator on the current floor—it connects both levels.

In the room, you’ll see two statues: one red and one blue. You can plant the Crop Sample in front of either statue.

In Remnant 2: The Dark Horizon DLC, there are four potential uses for the Crop Sample. Each choice offers unique rewards, but after testing all four by backing up our save file, we found that you can only keep one reward in the end.

If you want to try again, you can reroll N’Erud and obtain another Crop Sample for a different reward. While it’s a bit of a long process, it’s still possible.

1. Plant at the Blue Statue

If you plant the Crop Sample under the Blue Statue in the location mentioned earlier, you’ll receive the Gossamer Heart relic as a reward.

However, the reward won’t be given right away. You may need to return to this location after making some progress, such as completing the dungeon, visiting Ward 13, or defeating a boss. Once you’ve progressed a bit, come back to claim your reward.

Alternatively, you can reload this area by interacting with a nearby World Stone and selecting the closest spawn point.

2. Plant at the Red Statue

Planting the Crop Sample takes a bit more time to yield a reward. Unlike the Blue Statue, where you can simply return after some progression or reload the world to get your reward, planting the Crop Sample at the Red Statue triggers a secret boss fight.

The secret boss, the Inverted Shambler, will appear when you return to the room after planting the Crop Sample. As you approach the Red Statue, the Inverted Shambler will spawn.

Once you defeat the Inverted Shambler, you’ll receive the Repercussion Mutator as a reward in Remnant 2: The Dark Horizon DLC.

3. Give it to the Cook at Ward 13

In addition to the choice between the Red and Blue statues, there’s a third option for using the Crop Sample. If you return to Ward 13, you can give the item to Duane the cook, who can be found at his makeshift stall near the World Stone.

Doing so will unlock a new consumable item called the Numbing Agent, which increases the amount of damage you can take before it starts affecting your gray health. However, you won’t receive this reward right away. It’s best to continue progressing through the DLC and return to Duane later to claim it.

4. Plant in the Soil at Ward 13

While the above three methods give you excellent rewards, planting the soil back at Ward 13 using the Crop Sample is another way of getting a unique reward from this item. You can plant this item at the rear of the garden in Ward 13.

However, the planting spot may not be available in your game and is tied to a few tasks involving DLC content.

To make the planting area appear in Ward 13, you’ll need to complete an encounter tied to the Yaesha DLC in the Infested Abyss. During this event, you’ll interact with the Clawbone or Root NPC, who will ask you two choices, and you need to either accept or refuse, as both contain unique outcomes.

  • If you accept, you’ll receive the Profane Soul Stone amulet. You can then take it to the Keeper in the Labyrinth, who will purify it, turning it into the Soul Stone amulet.
  • If you refuse or decide not to purify the amulet, returning it to the Root will reward you with the Profane Heart relic.

After completing this sequence, you should be able to notice a Root growth appearing at the rear of your garden in Ward 13. This is where you need to plant the Crop Sample.

Note: You should also note that this process needs to be done in your own world. If you are in a coop game where you’ve joined a player’s world, completing this quest will not unlock the garden in Ward 13 for you.
