Districts are the building blocks of your future metropolis in Frostpunk 2. You build districts for different purposes, and each of them can be expanded further by adding new sections and add-ons. Naturally, you just want to build districts around the generator and on resource tiles, but there’s a lot more to it than that because placements and position matter. Here’s how to build districts properly in Frostpunk 2.
How to Build Different Districts in Frostpunk 2
Building districts require the game’s core resources, which are Prefabs, workforce, Materials, and more. They depend on which district you want to build. To build districts, a button on the lower right corner of your screen opens up the construction district panel. You’ll see five different districts: Housing District, Food District, Extraction District, Industrial District, and Logistics District.
Each district has a specific purpose, but they have the same construction mechanics. You’ll frostbreak tiles to clear areas for construction. Once the area has been cleared of the frost, you can start building districts on them. You must place a specific number of tiles to construct a single district (usually six tiles). Some tiles have different icons that signify the type of resource available in the tile.
For example, a box icon would indicate Materials are available on the tile, while a plant icon means that food can be extracted from that tile. You want to place the appropriate district on the specific tile to harvest the resources.
How Should You Position Districts in Frostpunk 2?
When building districts, you need to think of two major effects when positioning them. First, you want to place them close to each other, preferably near the generator, to improve heating between buildings. Placing your districts close to each other will help you maintain a decent heat level while waiting for crucial research upgrades to improve your heating in the mid-game.
In some cases, you’ll have to ignore this tip because you might need an emergency resource far away from your generator. You want to frostbreak as fast as possible to that area and build an Extraction District. You’ll fill in the gaps in the future to provide better heating.
Second, you want to think about the output you need when placing districts. For example, if there are around six or more resource tiles next to each other, is it better to build one Extraction District on all six tiles or create two Extraction Districts that cover three tiles each?
Building one district to extract six resource tiles only increases the maximum deposit that can be extracted from the district. It doesn’t affect the extraction rate or output. So, if you need more of the resources quickly, you can build two Extraction Districts. This is a bit inefficient, and you should only do this in emergency situations when your emergency shifts can’t fix the problem.
