Shin Megami Tensei V: Oyamatsumi Boss Guide

Oyamatsumi is a boss found in Shiba in Shin Megami Tensei V and Vengeance. It is Level 48, meaning players will be incredibly under-leveled the first time they see it. Avoid Oyamatsumi until receiving “The Search for Oyamatsumi” quest from Take-Minakata in Kanda-no-Yashiro. Then, return to Shiba to challenge Oyamatsumi.

Oyamatsumi Weaknesses and Resistances

Oyamatsumi is weak to Fire elemental attacks and the Mirage Status. It resists Ice and Elec as well as all other status ailments. It is immune to Dark, and neutral to Force, Light, and Physical.

Dealing Fire damage will be the best way to weaken Oyamatsumi, since each Fire attack will add an extra Press Turn. The following demons are just some of the ones that know Fire skills normally at around the point you may want to challenge Oyamatsumi:

  • Dionysus*
  • Zhuque*
  • Baphomet
  • Eligor

You can also use these demons’ Essences to give Fire skills to your high-level demons, or, if you’re building a Magic-focused Nahobino, you can teach a strong Fire skill like Agidyne to him.

*Dionysus and Zhuque are good choices to use against Oyamatsumi because of their Fire skills and proficiency. Just watch out for their weakness to Ice, because…

Oyamatsumi Skills

Oyamatsumi knows the following skills:

SkillEffect
Wrath of Oyamatsumi(Passive) When user Resists or Nulls an attack, chance to counter with a medium Ice attack with a chance of instakill.
Ice DracostrikeMedium Ice Strength-based attack to 1 foe.
TarukajaRaises Attack of 1 ally by 1 rank for 3 turns.
Crusher OnslaughtMedium Physical attack to all foes. Low accuracy.
MabufudyneHeavy Ice attack to all foes.
BeatdownWeak to heavy Physical attack to 1 foe. The more remaining HP you have, the stronger the attack.
Omagatoki: CriticalAll attacks, including magic, become critical hits during the next turn.
Shin Megami Tensei V: Oyamatsumi Boss Skills

Ice Dracostrike and Mabufudyne are both dangerous Ice skills in the rocky hands of Oyamatsumi. Ice Dracostrike only targets one unit, but Mabufudyne targets all units opposing the user. Use items like Ice Dampener to protect any of your units that may be weak to Ice.

You may also want to use the Essence of a demon that blocks Ice to change Nahobino’s immunities for this fight. Oyamatsumi will lose two Press Turns if it targets a demon (or the Nahobino) that is immune to Ice with its Ice Dracostrike or Mabufudyne skills.

Similarly, avoid using Ice, Elec, and status moves (besides Mirage) on Oyamatsumi, otherwise the user may get instakilled by the Wrath of Oyamatsumi passive.

After defeating Oyamatsumi, you can summon it through demon fusion. Check out the entire list of demons available in Shin Megami Tensei V: Vengeance.
