That said, what about the rookies? Well, if you’re new to the Gran Turismo world, or just need a refresher, we have a few tips to help get you started. Welcome, and we’ll see you on the race track.

How does acceleration work in Gran Turismo 6?

You can accelerate one of two ways. You can either use the X button to accelerate and pump the brakes with the square button, or you can use the right analog stick, pushing up to hold down the gas, or holding back to brake.

Honestly, between both of these control methods, the analog stick works best. It allows you to gradually brake and accelerate a lot easier than using buttons, and it’s a relatively easy system to learn and master. You’ll thank us once you begin taking tight turns like a pro.

How do camera angles work in Gran Turismo 6?

Camera angles can be changed at any time with a press of the Select button. There are four to choose from in all – Front Car View, Inside Car View, Close Rear View and Far Rear View. The first two place you inside the car, while the others are from a distance behind it.

The best view to use is the first one. It gives you a mostly clear view of the road and the driving line (if turned on), and it also gives you a rearview mirror, so you can conveniently see what cars are doing behind you, and if you need to cut them off to avoid taking the lead.

What car do you start with in Gran Turismo 6?

When you take your first test laps around the track, you’ll do so in the Renault Sport Clio R.S. ’11, a decent modeled car with a fair acceleration rate. You’ll learn the ropes in this thing, so don’t feel bad if you’re a little rusty getting used to it.

From there, you’ll have the option to buy your first car, though you’ll be stuck with the Honda Fit RS ’10 as a default choice. No other options will open up until this is in your garage. Don’t feel bad, it’s a strong car to start out with, and, from there, with credits earned in the game, you can purchase a new one in no time. You can also opt to add extra credits through in-game microtransaction, but it’s completely optional.

What car settings can you adjust in Gran Turismo 6?

The three general car settings you can check out is transmission, front tires and rear tires. It’s important to have the right transmission in mind when you drive, even if you’re using automatic. Knowing when your shifts will come – and how to accelerate when they do – can make all the difference when it comes to maintaining a proper speed. Manual may be better for some players, as they can adjust this without worrying about the car doing it automatically.

As for tires, it’s important to keep these in good shape. Replace them if they become worn, because otherwise you could be spinning out rather badly going off the track. When you first start, you won’t need to worry about these too much. As you go on, however, you’ll want to make sure they stay in good shape.

What driving aids are available in Gran Turismo 6?

Several. There’s the driving line, which we suggest keep turned on so you can see where to brake and accelerate around turns; the blind spot indicator, which prevents collisions with cars you can’t necessarily see; the active steering, which helps you around turns; the active stability management and anti-braking system, which assist even further with turns and handling; the skid recovery force, which helps you get out of a nasty off-track encounter; and controller steering sensitivity. We suggest keeping this at “0” unless you’re a veteran who’s used to another setting.

How do I earn stars and credits in Gran Turismo 6?

Easy. Clear events in the best place possible. Netting a third place victory will get you a star with ease, and some good credits. If you get first, however, you’ll get three stars and even more credits.

As you build up in star count, more events will unlock, including additional cup events and challenges. So make sure you keep on the up and up in terms of performance. Additional credits will also help you buy extra vehicles, as well as modify parts on your favorite cars.

That should mostly cover it. Just remember to have fun, and don’t worry if you need to restart a race – there’s no penalty for starting over.

Gran Turismo 6 is available now for PlayStation 3.
