How To Prepare For The Final Shape in Destiny 2

The Final Shape is upon us...here's how to prepare.

As we count down the days until The Final Shape arrives in Destiny 2, many players may be wondering just how they can best prepare to take on The Witness and defeat The Darkness. With this expansion, foes will be stronger, and even though you don’t necessarily need to prepare in any way for the new adventures that lie ahead, it’s best to be ahead of the curve. Here’s everything you need to know about how to prepare for The Final Shape in Destiny 2 when it finally arrives on June 4.

Take Advantage of Free Expansions in Destiny 2

Destiny 2 The Witch Queen
via Steam

For the players who have been away from Destiny 2, this might be one of the most important points to mention. Bungie recently made Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and The Witch Queen expansions free for all players to experience from May 7 – June 3, 2024. This was done in an attempt to help those players who hadn’t acquired the subclasses, as well as the arsenal of Exotic and Legendary Gear that accompany those expansions.

Once again, while it isn’t necessary to complete these expansions beforehand, there are still many unique weapons and abilities that you can gain once you have played through these individual expansions. And seeing that they are currently in open access, you might as well. So if you’ve been looking for a sign to return to Destiny 2, this might be the perfect time to do so.

However, it is worth noting that when the open access period for these expansions ends, much of the gear you acquire will once again become locked. As a result, we suggest you treat this as a trial period. Complete each expansion and decide which ones are worth your money. When the open access timer runs out, you can then decide if you want to purchase any outright.

Free Weekly Bright Dust

Bungie has been quite generous by giving away free Bright Dust in recent weeks leading up to The Final Shape. Even if you don’t plan to play all the content that’s currently available in the game, you might as well take advantage of the free Bright Dust that appears every weekly reset… because why not?

The Bright Dust will be available in the Eververse Store upon each weekly reset. To obtain it, simply collect it from the Store itself.

Stock Up On Materials

With the arrival of The Final Shape, you’ll likely have a lot of new gear and weaponry that you’ll want to add to your arsenal. However, as with most things in Destiny 2, you’ll need materials to acquire them.

Listed below are all of the necessary materials you should be focusing on stockpiling before The Final Shape arrives:

  • Glimmer – can be farmed through Public Events, PvE activities, PvP activities, Bounty Completions, etc.
  • Exotic Engrams – can be earned from vendors (Lord Shaax, Zavala, etc.), completing Weekly Challenges, rare drops in PvP & PvE, Season Pass track
  • Ascendant Shards – can be earned after completing rank 1 at vendors (Zavala, Shaax, Drifter, Spirit of Riven, Gunsmith, etc.), Seasonal Pass track, Higher tiers in Onslaught & The Coil, Fishing, Redeeming Wish Tokens, GM Nightfalls)
  • Exotic Cypher – Weekly “Xenology” quest from Xur, Season Pass track, Redeeming Wish Tokens
  • Enhancement Cores – (PvP & PvE activities, Increasing Reputation Score at Vendors, Nightfalls & GM Nightfalls, Season Pass track, Dismantling unwanted Legendary items, Legend and Master Lost Sectors, etc.)
  • Enhancement Prisms – (Nightfalls & GM Nightfalls, Empire Hunts, Increasing Reputation Score at Vendors, Season Pass track, etc.)

Completing Bounties

Completing bounties before an expansion or “bounty prepping” has always been a common practice among Destiny players. With The Final Shape right around the corner, this practice remains just as relevant as ever. However, if you do decide to bounty prep, there’s a few things you should know.

Weekly Bounties

When completing bounties, weekly bounties are your best bet. These bounties, often marked as XP++, are bounties that rotate on a weekly basis that provide you with the most amount of XP. We recommend completing weekly bounties from Petra Venj, Variks The Loyal, and Suraya Hawthorne. By completing bounties from these vendors and storing them until The Final Shape arrives, you can rack up a lot of XP that will assist you in progressing throughout the upcoming Season Pass.

Daily Bounties

Daily Bounties, usually categorized as XP & XP+ don’t provide you with nearly as much XP as the weekly bounties, but they can still be useful in helping you level up when The Final Shape arrives. So, if you’re someone who doesn’t have much time to grind the weekly bounties, it may be worth just stacking up on the regular daily bounties and storing them until the new expansion arrives.

Shiny Drops From Onslaught

Destiny 2 Into the Light
via Bungie

With the Into the Light update in April, Bungie brought back several fan-favorite weapons. While these weapons will remain in the loot pool when The Final Shape arrives, the Shiny versions of these weapons won’t. Therefore, it’s essential for you to try to collect as many drops as possible.

We recently posted a guide outlining how to get shiny loot from Onslaught in Destiny 2, so be sure to check it out before these variations go away!

So there you have it, several ways in which you can prepare for The Final Shape in Destiny 2. As we stated before, you don’t necessarily need to prepare for this expansion in any way, but for the veteran Guardians out there who want to be fully equipped and ready to take on The Witness, this guide should be of assistance.

We hope this guide helped, and until next time, Guardians.
