The upcoming Super Smash Bros. game for Nintendo 3DS and Wii U has seen a number of good reveals over the past few weeks, including a new Pilotwings stage, the return of old favorites like Luigi and Princess Peach and new characters such as Wii Fit Trainer and Animal Crossing Villager. Today, Nintendo unveiled a nice little surprise for fans of the forthcoming The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD

Toon Link is an exact replica of the character found in Wind Waker, with a slightly shorter appearance than the one he had in other games like Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. He’s still quite effective, though, thanks to his sword and shield and fast movement – making him a threat in the Smash Bros. universe.

It’s nice to know that we’ll have an opportunity to see who’s better in a fight – the real Link or his Toon counterpart. The answer will come when the game releases sometime next year.

Meanwhile, if you’re waiting to rediscover The Wind Waker, you can download it now on the Wii U eShop, or wait until October 4th for the retail version.
