Could Helldivers 2 Get a New Faction?

It’s certainly possible that Helldivers 2 could get a new faction in the future. It could mark the return of the Illuminate to the second game in the series, and the Illuminate could be a welcome return for those who have played the first game. For those who may not have played the first entry, the Illuminate served as a bunch of aliens who planned on destroying the Earth.

There are a couple of shreds of evidence that make it nearly apparent that the Illuminate could be the latest faction to join Helldivers 2. On March 14, 2024, Reddit user Dye335 shared an interesting experience that they encountered while playing Helldivers;

“I swear, this isn’t a schizo post. While playing last night on Draupnir finishing the personal order killing Devastators. I was just minding my business heading towards an objective, can’t remember the objective but no enemy was around, wasn’t in combat, and no combat music playin. Just vibin. And out of nowhere I got hit with a vibrant blue laser shot, almost resembling a sniper round, from an angle that would suggest a high angle shot. Wearing heavy armour I got knocked down 60~% hp immediately and very lightly ragdolled just maybe a foot backwards.”

This is rather interestesting, especially after a set of leaks which came out during the second week of March. A reliable content account did post what could ultimately become in-game renditions of The Illuminate in Helldivers 2, as can be seen above — however, Arrowhead has been tight-lipped thus far about the introduction of a new faction.
