Neil Gaiman Creating New Video Game

The author of Sandman and American Gods attempts something new.

Neil Gaiman is one of the most heralded fantasy writers, penning such legendary works as Neverwhere, American Gods, Stardust and Sandman.  Now he’s decided to give video games a try.

The author confirmed that he’s hard at work on Wayward Manor, a spooky puzzle/adventure title being made in conjunction with indie game studio The Odd Gentlemen, who previously created the inspired The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom.

Gaiman has been a fan of video games for some time, itching at the chance to try making his own.  He found the inspiration, out of all places, through early 20th century tales like Arsenic and Old Lace.

In Wayward Manor, you’re a ghost called upon to scare people out of an old mansion, in the hopes of getting some peace and quiet.  In a way, it sounds like the old Electronic Arts Genesis game Poulterguy – though obviously it’ll have the magic of the Gaiman touch.

You can watch Gaiman talk about the project.  He also launched an official site for the game, which you can visit here.

In addition, although an official KickStarter hasn’t opened, the development team hopes to raise funds through pre-orders and other rewards.  If you’ve got ten grand lying around, you can even have dinner with Gaiman.
