Kingdom Hearts Creator Wants to Add Marvel and Star Wars to Franchise

Luke Skywalker teaming with Mickey Mouse? It could happen.

The Kingdom Hearts series majestically combined the Square Enix and Walt Disney universes, creating a spellbinding saga that will continue next year with the forthcoming Kingdom Hearts III. However, series creator Tetsuya Nomura wants to expand it even further.

While speaking with Finaland during last week’s Japan Expo in Paris, Nomura admitted that he’d like to see content from both the Star Wars and Marvel franchises in the Kingdom Hearts universe at some point. However, it’s a tougher process than you might expect.

According to Nomura, Disney has several restrictions when it comes to its franchises.  He believes “it would be great if we could add those licenses as well,” though “there are lots of rules and restrictions by Disney so we can’t actually put in everything people want.  So it’s quite a difficult decision, but we’re going to prepare some surprises for you so, just wait for the information.”

Final Fantasy developer Yoshinori Kitase also expressed interest in the crossover, but Nomura stated, “We’ve been talking about Star Wars itself since it became Disney’s content recently.  When I heard the news I was like wow, wow.  Obviously it’s gonna be great if we can add it.”

We’ll let you know if the team makes any progress.  Darth Vader and Wolverine would make quite the battle party.
