How Does Multiplayer Work in Nightingale? – Answered

You can play solo or with a group, but the Fae Realms won't hold back either way.

While you won’t gear up for a base raid and PvP in a player-led ambush against another party, Nightingale still offers multiplayer that promises a fun experience. But how does multiplayer work in Nightingale? Let’s find out!

Can You Play Nightingale Solo?

First and foremost, if you’re the type of player who would rather hop into an expansive world solo without the constraints of group play dictating your speed or playstyle, you can enjoy Nightingale in single-player.

Developer Inflexion Games essentially locks the game when you first start. You won’t encounter another player in your Realm until you change the settings to ‘Public’ or start a co-op party with your pals. It’s an isolated adventure, with no one to boss you around if you would rather spend an hour or two farming resources instead of investigating a point of interest (POI) in the distance.

Can You Play in a Party in Nightingale?

But if you wish to party up, the game makes it easy. As previously mentioned, you can set your Realm to ‘Public’ to attract random players. If your game is ‘Public,’ you will see anyone else in the same Realm as you on the map, but you won’t have to play with them. You can still play solo, take the game at your own pace, or party up for an encounter.

Then, there are party mechanics in Nightingale. These allow you to group up after the tutorial. You can join a friend in their Realm, invite someone to yours, or hop into voice chat with an entire party to explore a Realm and construct a base. That said, anyone in your party can also destroy base items and structures, so be wary of who you invite to play.

Building a Base in Multiplayer

Your base, your Respite Realm, requires an Estate Cairn, a beacon that reaches through the Fae Realms. You can always return to your home, but you can only have one.

If you wish to build a mega-base with your entire party, everyone must set their Respite Realm in the same Fae Realm.

How Does Loot Work in Multiplayer?

I’m always curious to learn about loot mechanics in a game that allows for co-op parties, as I hate sharing loot amongst the entire group. I’m greedy! But in Nightingale, loot chests from encounters are instanced for each player, but the loot you find elsewhere is not. You can, however, trade or give items to your co-op party members by dropping items on the ground without fear of losing them. It will suffice!

Nightingale will launch on Steam Early Access on February 20, 2024.
