Retro Studios has been keeping rather busy as of late. Even though the studio isn’t working on its Metroid Prime series that it capped off with the release of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on the Wii, it has been busy with other great projects like next month’s upcoming Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D for the 3DS, which arrives on May 24th.
The team is working on more than just a 3DS remake. Donkey Kong Country supervising developer Hiro Yamada said in an interview with Official Nintendo Magazine that Retro is actually hard at work on a new project and they’re hoping to “introduce it in the not too distant future.” He didn’t offer any hints beyond that, but E3 could definitely hold something in the cards for the team.
The new game might be introduced during one of the company’s Internet-oriented Nintendo Direct specials since they’re not doing a formal E3 press conference this year. Either that or it’ll pop up on the show floor as a surprise.
