It’s been ages since Yoshi headlined a Nintendo game. In fact, the last one to happen was in 1998, with the multi-colored dinos hosting Yoshi’s Story for the Nintendo 64. But he’s back and better than ever this fall for the Wii U, in a new game being directed by Takashi Tezuka, who handled both Story and the SNES game Yoshi’s Island.
The game, going under the project name Yoshi Land (subject to change), will feature platforming antics with a yarn-like approach, similar to what HAL Laboratory did with Kirby’s Epic Yarn on the Wii a few years back. The game appears to be a 2D platformer, but could very well change with some 3D elements. It definitely has an old-school flair to it, though you can probably expect that it’ll utilize the GamePad in a number of innovative ways.
The game is expected to be on the show floor at E3 this summer, so of course we’ll have follow-up impressions for you as progress is made on it. Be sure to check back for more details soon.
