Final Fantasy 16: How to Play the Echoes of the Fallen DLC

How to begin Clive's latest adventure

If you’re like me and you can’t get enough of FFXVI, you will be biting at the bit to play the DLC. However, you’ll have to tie up some loose ends in-game before you can tackle the first FF16 DLC, Echoes of the Fallen. Here is exactly what to do!

How to Start the Echoes of the Fallen FF16 DLC

Firstly, make sure that you have purchased the DLC that matches the region of your FFXVI game, and then be up to the final area in-game, called Origin. On top of this, you will need to have completed both Jill and Joshua’s side quests, titled Priceless and Where There’s a Will respectively.

To unlock Origin and the final battle, all you will need to do is continue with the main story, and eventually, you will be informed that you are at the point of no return during the Back to Their Origin quest. Certain characters will be prepared for this eventuality, and it will be quite clear. This is the point that you need to be at story-wise for Echoes of the Fallen. It makes sense as this first DLC takes place around the same time as the other elements of the story.

However, you will also need to have completed Jill and Joshua’s side quests, and this is because once you have done so, they will tag alongside you in-game. They help you out in the DLC, so you need to have gone through their side quests and developed that relationship with them. Their side quests are not always clear though, and Jill’s path can be a little confusing.

Joshua’s Side Quest

You will need to have completed Joshua’s final side quest titled Where There’s a Will to be able to begin the FF16 DLC. By completing this final side quest, you will permanently unlock Joshua as a party member. You will start the quest by speaking to Joshua near the Boarding Dock.

If you do not see the option to begin this quest, make sure that you have completed the following.

  • Complete the side quest titled Phoenix, Heal Thyself. This can be started by speaking to Jote in The Infirmary at The Hideaway.
  • Began the Back to their Origin main story quest.

Jill’s Side Quests

You will need to have completed Jill’s final side quest titled Priceless, which will have her permanently join you as a party member. You will start the quest by reading a letter to Clive at the Reading Table in The Hideaway. This letter is from Joshua, and it is titled ‘Concern for Jill’.

If you do not see the option to begin this quest, make sure that you have completed the following.

  • Complete the side quest titled Cut from the Cloth. This can be started by speaking to Hortense near the Boarding Deck at The Hideaway.
  • Complete Joshua’s final side quest titled Where There’s a Will.
  • Began the Back to their Origin main story quest.

Where to Start the Echoes of the Fallen FF16 DLC

When you have met the above requirements, to begin the Echoes of the Fallen DLC, all you have to do is speak to Charon, who is located in her usual spot, at her shop in The Hideaway. Talking to her will give you the option to begin the Echoes of the Fallen quests.

The Echoes of the Fallen quests are differentiated from the regular FFXVI quests due to the purple marker. So, if you haven’t completed all of the base game quests, don’t worry, as you will be able to tell the difference easily!

The Echoes of the Fallen FFXVI DLC substantially raises the base difficulty level from the main game. So, it’s best to make sure that you are going in prepared. If you haven’t done so yet, completing some of the Hunts can help you perfect your combat ability so that you are DLC-ready.
