Telltale Games’ The Walking Dead series, which released in five different episodes last year, has become a huge critical success, winning various Game of the Year awards…and deservedly so. But now we’re learning that the game is a viable selling success as well.
Telltale has reported that the game has sold over 8.5 million episodes, ranging at $4.99 apiece…that’s not too shabby. The company’s CEO, Dan Connors, has stated that about 25 percent of the sales come from iOS devices, with the overall sales totaling “$40 million in sales, not including any promotions.” And with those promotions included, like Steam Holiday Sales and Xbox Live discounts, it could be even higher.
That’s a pretty big deal, especially considering that Telltale is already knee deep in developing a second season of the series, though details on it are very scarce at this moment. We’re likely to learn more in the months ahead, with E3 and other game shows approaching. The story’s not over yet…and that’s a good thing.
