If you’re a fan of online Zynga games, or just can’t get enough of interactive with friends in PetVille and FishVille, you might want to say goodbye to your social circles now…because those worlds are coming to an end.
Starting today, Zynga will be shutting down 11 of its popular online games, not accepting any new players and removing game services (and their respective apps) very soon. It’s a cost-cutting measure following their depleted share price on the stock market, down 3.52 percent from last year. 100 employees have since been laid off, and offices have been closed overseas.
The games that are shutting down include PetVille, Mafia Wars 2, FishVille, Vampire Wars, Treasure Isle, Indiana Jones Adventure World (which shuts down January 14th), Mafia Wars Shakedown, Forestville, Montopia, Mojitomo and Word Scramble Challenge.
Clearly it’s not a good time for Zynga, but here’s hoping the company bounces back in 2013 with its other free-to-play efforts. And, hey, FarmVille’s still active. At least, for the moment…
