League of Legends Pro Player Rivera Permanently Banned For Bad Behavior

Rule of thumb – if you play online, don't be a jerk. Especially if you do it professionally.

We know that people can act like jerks when they play online, whether it’s taunting you after a match or screaming obscenities when they’re falling behind.  But when you do it for a living, professionally, you have to maintain a certain standard above that, or it just looks bad for you.

Case in point – League of Legends pro player Christian “IWillDominate” Rivera.  He’s been playing the online MOBA for a while now, but hasn’t been afraid to show his competitive side, belittling his competition and getting in trouble multiple times.  Well, it looks like Riot Games, the game’s creator, has had enough.

Rivera has been issued a permanent ban from the game, with Riot noting that it’s due to his “tendency to engage in verbal abuse and insults, his lack of cordial demeanor, and his treatment of less-skilled players.”  He’s already faced the company’s tribunal nine times, and even with those, Riot states he has “repeated incidents of similar behavior outside the game”.

Riot concluded that “no other professional players in North America approach this individual’s harassment score” and “promoting good sportsmanship and improving player behavior is a mission that’s extremely important to Riot.”
