Tom Hardy is definitely one of the better upcoming actors in the Hollywood community.  After his standout performance in the action-packed drama Warrior, he’s been moving up in the ranks in Christopher Nolan films, including Inception and, most recently, his turn as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises.  But now he could be tackling his biggest role to date – Sam Fisher.

Ubisoft has announced that Hardy has officially joined the forthcoming Splinter Cell film project, and will assume the role of the fearless, stealth-inducing soldier as he battles terrorists.

“Tom Hardy is one of the biggest talents in the film industry, and he has a phenomenal ability to take on complex and varied roles with his broad range of acting skills.  His involvement in the Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell movie is exciting news for movie and video game fans alike,” said Jean-Julien Baronnet, chief executive officer at Ubisoft Motion Pictures.

Eric Singer has already been signed on to write the script for the film, which is set to begin production somewhere down the road, along the same lines as the Assassin’s Creed film.  No word yet on a director or a production start date.

One small request, Ubisoft – put Michael Ironside in the film somewhere.  The guy deserves it, especially after making Sam Fisher as gritty as he is today.
