The beta for The Finals may be a ton of fun, but to enjoy all that fun, you need to get into the game first. Here’s how to fix The Finals crashing on startup.
How to Stop Crashing at Launch in THE FINALS
It’s worth keeping in mind that while the below fixes can help, it’s possible The Finals won’t work after you try them. These are merely the best suggestions we could find, and not every possible solution for every case. With that out of the way, let’s get started.
Use a VPN
Some users have reported installing the game with a VPN can work. Apparently, some organizations that provide internet can block crucial files for the game. It may cost a bit to get a VPN if you don’t already have one, so you’ll need to decide if it’s worth the attempt.
Unlink Your Steam Account From the Game’s Website
Doing this will delete any progress you’ve made during the Alpha or Beta toward rewards in the full game.
Some users have reported that unlinking their Steam account from The Finals website can remedy the issue. To do so, head to the website and follow the appropriate instructions to unlink it. Try launching again, and it may just work.
Delete All Data From the Game’s Install Folder
While it can be tough for those who aren’t as tech-savvy, deleting the folder for the game files can help. Before you do this, make sure you uninstall the game and restart your PC to make it useful. From there, go to the install folder (Program Files (x86)/steamapps/common/The Finals Playtest) and delete the entire folder. From there, redownload and launch the game.
Verify Game Files
You can try to verify the integrity of your game files to fix the issue in case it has to do with corrupted files of some sort. To do so, right-click the game in your Library, click Properties, click Installed Files, then select “Verify integrity of game files.” This will take a few minutes, but may solve the issue.
The Classic Restart Method
Alongside all of these, everyone’s favorite restart method can work. Completely restarting Steam (through Task Manager, not just closing it), restarting your PC, and so on can possibly fix the issue. It’s less likely, but possible.
