Just like its predecessors, Insomniac’s Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is packed with hints toward possible DLCs, expansions or simply other games altogether. One of these hints was the mention of the G-Serum at a certain point of the game, a foreshadowing of what’s next in this game’s universe. If you haven’t got the reference, here’s what you need to know about this not-so-mysterious serum.

G-Serum in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 Explained
After the combined efforts of Peter, Miles, and MJ finally put an end to Venom’s rampage, its host, Harry Osborn, is left unconscious. He’s taken to a hospital, where a doctor informs his father, Norman Osborn, that the boy has a very slim chance of waking up. Peter and MJ leave the room as Norman breaks down (quite literally) after hearing about his son’s fate. After the couple leaves, he asks someone on his phone to “get the G-SERUM ready”.
With Norman’s mental instability and the appropriately named drug, the G-Serum can only be a hint toward the Green Goblin’s introduction into the universe. One of the most recognizable Spider-Man villains, particularly known thanks to its appearance in Sam Raimi’s Spider-Man trilogy, the Green Goblin was one of the few villains not yet mentioned in the game.
While its origins always vary depending on which media we’re following, the Green Goblin’s origins are usually tied to an experiment meant to either save people or make them stronger. Still, it ends up creating the villain’s alter-persona and slowly strips away the user’s sanity. His identity is usually either Norman or Harry Osborn, so the cutscenes leave little room to discuss whether that’s happening or not.
Judging from Norman’s reaction, it seems like the Serum has been in preparation for a long time, but we can’t be sure of its intended use. It could be a last effort to save Harry, but the post-credits scene implies that Norman is seeking revenge against the Spider-Men as he asks Otto Octavius for their identities at the prison. In that case, the serum would be his way of putting up a challenge against them.
This was not the only character setup we got in this game. Other known villains and heroes from Spidey’s lengthy history have also been mentioned or even made their debut in this game, so there’s definitely a lot to look forward to in the series. But while we have no DLC or next game announcement, you’re free to swing around the city in New Game Plus.
