Do you want to look like a cherubic demon? Do you want to punch really hard but be really dumb at the same time? Then the Devilfoil Mask is the helmet for you and your three closest party members. Here’s how to get and use the Devilfoil Mask in Baldur’s Gate 3.
How to Get and Use Devilfoil Masks in Baldur’s Gate 3 (BG3)
There are four Devilfoil masks to find, and the more you wear, the better its hidden magical effects. These delightfully creepy masks have an unlisted magical effect called “Infernal Legion”.
Here’s how to find all four Devilfoil Masks in Baldur’s Gate 3. Each of these masks can be found in the Grymforge before you fight Nere.
Devilfoil Mask 1 Location
We’ll be tackling the hardest-to-reach masks first.
From the Underdark – Grymforge Waypoint, head up the stairs then go North. At the very back of the Grymforge, in an alcove, you’ll find three dwarves harassing two Roth.
They’re trying to get the Roth to clear a cave in. You can handle the situation however you like, but I opted to kill the dwarves and clear the cave in myself.
Once the rocks are cleared, which can be done by attacking them normally, you’ll find a hidden staircase. But before you go up the stairs, you’ll see two Dark Justicar skeletons. Between them is the first Devilfoil mask.
Devilfoil Mask 2 Location
Continue up the stairs from where you found the first Devilfoil mask, and you’ll find yourself facing an iron walkway. This iron walkway is very, very trapped. Try to avoid the panels if you don’t want to get barbequed.
Either way, go a few meters down the walkway and you’ll see a ladder to your left.
Descend, then use the levers to move a hanging platform to your location. Jump on it, then onto the middle walkway. You can find a Longsword Mould in this location, but our goal is to get across the gap to the big doors on the other side.
Leave one companion behind to work the levers. Or, alternatively, shoot the levers or use Mage Hand to move the hanging platform so you can access the other side.
Once there, you’ll find a set of locked doors. Unlock it, then head up the stairs and turn right. You’ll encounter a few enemies, including a merregon. Kill the enemies and loot the second Devilfoil Mask from the merregon.
Devilfoil Mask 3 Location
Do not leave the room where you found the second Devilfoil mask! The third mask is on the altar in front of the massive mirror. Grab it to add it to your collection.
Devilfoil Mask 4 Location
The final mask is best accessed by using the Underdark – Grymforge Waypoint, then walking up the stairs. Head towards where Nere is trapped or where he’s been killed. You’ll see a table to your left. On it will be the final Devilfoil Mask. However, taking it is considered stealing.
If you don’t have the best stealth, you can wait until after you’ve freed and killed Nere. Take one long rest, and the dwarves should leave. This will allow you to loot the Devilfoil Mask without angering anyone.
And with that done, you have all four of the Devilfoil Masks!
How to Use the Devilfoil Masks in Baldur’s Gate 3
Infernal Legion ensures that when the wearer is within 20m of another creature wearing a merregon’s mask (Devilfoil Mask), Strength increases by 1, and Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma decreases by 1 per nearby mask.
That means that you can get +3 Strength but -3 Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma if your entire party is wearing them. And if you happen to be running a party full of melee-brawlers, then it’s not that significant of a loss.
To get the benefits of the Infernal Legion passive, you’ll need to have at least two party members wearing a Devilfoil Mask. Once you do, the passive “Infernal Legionary” will appear in their character profile.
As stated, they’ll then gain strength and lose intelligence, wisdom, and charisma, so long as another Devilfoil Mask-wearing partner is near them. Characters wearing the Devilfoil Mask will benefit most if more than one party member is wearing the mask and is nearby.
Thus, these masks work best in a melee-heavy party. Equipping it to a Fighter, like Lae’zel, and a Barbarian like Karlach, can help them reach their min-max’d potential.
