Can You Play As Kameo Characters In Mortal Kombat 1?

Can you control these Kameos?

Mortal Kombat 1 offers plenty of excellent characters to play as, but Jax and Sonya fans may be clamoring, wondering if they can control their favorite characters once again. As Kameo Characters, they’ll be able to rush in and help the main crew out in their adventures, but those hoping that they can assume direct control of these OG Mortal Kombat characters may be hoping that there is more to the Kameo system than meets the eye.

While there are a fair number of characters and Kameos to choose from, Jax and Sonya mains will need to find some new characters to play as. In this particular title, the Kameo characters can only work as background characters that help out your primary choice. You can bring them into the ring by pressing the R1/RB button alongside a direction for an alternate attack, but beyond that, they’re out of your control.

Does this mean that they’ll always be out of your control? It’s hard to say. While Kombat Pack 1 has already been announced, there is a chance that Neatherrealm Studios will bring a new version of these particular warriors to the playable side. Since there are a few variations of Scorpion and Sub Zero available to control and use as Kameo fighters, maybe the same can be done for these particular heroes.

As you play through the story mode, their inclusion as Kameo fighters may make a bit more sense, which we strongly recommend you do. It’s fairly lengthy, but it’s worth your time and effort. Make sure that you keep your eyes and ears peeled on our Mortal Kombat 1 section below so you’re ready to get into the action and the bloodshed when you’re choosing how you want to progress.
