Is The Mortal Kombat 1 Story Mode Worth Playing? – Answered

Is this a story worth living through?

It’s strange that fighting games have fully fleshed-out stories now, but here we are. Back in my day, we would have had to read through the instruction booklets that came with our copy of Mortal Kombat on the Super Nintendo to know what the story was all about, but the latest Mortal Kombat title rewrites history and changes up the story once again. But is this story mode all it’s hyped up to be, or should you not bother with it?

The answer is yes, absolutely. If you’ve been a fan of the franchise for quite some time, there is enough fan service here to make you squeal with joy once you encounter it. Alongside that, you’ll find that it’s an excellent way for you to control different characters and get used to the revamped combat system, maybe finding a new main along the way.

However, a few stilted lines of dialogue along the way take you out of the immersion, alongside some actors that really feel out of place. However, these moments do not hamper the overall ambition of the story, with the final portion doing something that has never been done before in Mortal Kombat history. For this alone, I strongly recommend giving the story a run-through.

You’ll also find plenty of gear locked behind the story, alongside a specific character that you can only unlock by fully completing the Story Mode. So, if you’re aiming for a complete set of cosmetics and characters, you’ll need to play through the story either way.

Whether you’ve only had a causal interest in the world of Mortal Kombat or someone who has been along for the ride from the start, this story adds plenty of new details to some of your favorite characters and is a fine addition to the group. I strongly recommend that you try it, especially if you want to find out the backstory of how these characters ended up being the way they are.

Jumping into the world of a new fighting game can be daunting, and we’ve got you covered in our Mortal Kombat 1 section below if you’re hoping to find out everything you need to about this game.
