Does Starfield Support HDR? – Answered

Watch the stars shine bright

High-dynamic range, more commonly known as HDR, is a beautiful feature indicating that a monitor shows greater contrast between different color shades. Rather than seeing a flat display of color that older screens typically have, you can see subtle, pixel-to-pixel differences that make textures pop. If you’re anticipating playing Starfield, you may wonder if you’ll get to experience this, especially if you’ve seen it in other games. To learn more, continue reading to discover whether Starfield supports HDR.

Does Starfield Have HDR Support?

No, Starfield does not support HDR. Despite showing on the store pages that it supports this, no in-game settings or the general visuals suggest this. Instead, you’ll have to go into your monitor or console settings to change this, which you can do by following the steps below:

  • PC
    • Settings > Display > HDR
  • Xbox
    • Profile & System > Settings > General > TV & Display Options > Video Modes > Allow HDR10

Aside from this, you cannot toggle HDR and enjoy the crisp contrast between different color shades.

Considering Starfield store pages describe it as having HDR support, future patches may change this. However, there has yet to be any update on this, and why this feature was left out is unclear. Going through display options, you may also notice changes in resolution with Ultrawide monitors and even the lack of an FOV slider. It is also currently impossible to change your brightness, which can impact how your monitor or TV displays the game.

With that said, we may see updates about this in the future as more patches release. In the meantime, we’ll have to stick to tweaking our visual settings to match our preferences.
