What is Quantum Essence in Starfield? – Answered

A mysterious item...

As you make your way through the massive universe that is Starfield, you’re likely to come across a lot of resources that aren’t clear on their use at first. However, they have a good bit of value, especially in more niche parts of the game. One resource that keeps giving you notifications when killing a particular type of enemy. Here’s what Quantum Essence is in Starfield.

How Do You Get Quantum Essence in Starfield?

Quantum Essence is a resource earned by defeating enemy Starborn, which starts showing up after a certain point in the main story campaign. They’ll appear fairly infrequently during the main missions, so if you want to farm it, you’ll want to run each of the Power From Beyond quests that Vladimir gives you periodically. After getting each Power, you’ll have to fight a Starborn, which is guaranteed to drop one Quantum Essence when killing it.

What Does Quantum Essence Do in Starfield?

To use Quantum Essence, you’ll want to first open up the Powers menu. This can be done by opening the regular menu, then selecting the Powers option at the top. In the bottom left, you’ll see the ability to use one of your Quantum Essences, which increases the regeneration rate of your Power energy for the next minute. Given how slowly it charges normally, this can be massive in a pinch.

It’s worth noting that you won’t get much Quantum Essence by the time you finish Starfield, so you should use it wisely. I had only used one or two to test the buff out in my playthrough, mind you, but that still only left 40 total. You may get more when playing New Game+, though I haven’t tested it yet.
