You might not see the area often, but the Astral Prism is one of the most important story locations in Baldur’s Gate 3. No matter your decisions in your own run, you need to make your way into the prism, and we’re here to help you find your way into the artifact.
How to Enter the Astral Prism in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 1
You’ll have a chance to enter the Astral Prism three times in Baldur’s Gate 3—once in each Act. Two of those times, you’ll automatically enter the Astral Prism as a part of the main story. But late in Act 1, your chance to enter the Astral Prism is optional and entirely skippable.
To enter the Astral Prism in Act 1 of Baldur’s Gate, you’ll need to follow Lae’zel’s questline. One of the first things you’re tasked to do in BG3, assuming you rescued Lae’zel at the start of the game, is to find a Githyanki creche to take care of your tadpole problem. Following this questline will lead you through the Mountain Pass and to the Rosymorn Monastery where you’ll come across the exact creche you’ve been looking for: Creche Y’llek.
As you make your way through Creche Y’llek, you’ll want to head through the Captain’s Quarters to the Inquisitor. Depending on your choices, you’ll likely have some difficult fights along the way. But no matter how you’ve chosen to interact with the Inquisitor, you’ll eventually be greeted by the Githyanki queen, Vlaakith. Vlaakith will want you to help her out by entering the Astral Prism and ridding her of its inhabitant. This is your first chance to step into the Astral Plane.
Should You Enter the Astral Prism in BG3?
Yes, you should enter the Astral Prism in the first Act of Baldur’s Gate 3. Boldly saying no to the queen means instantaneous death for your entire party. And deciding not to enter the Prism after your conversation with Queen Vlaakith will result in Lae’zel attacking you and leaving your party.
Choosing to enter the Astral Prism in the BG3’s first Act does not mean you’re committed to killing the Dream Visitor. When you enter the Astral Prism, you’ll have a conversation with your guardian, and you’ll make your choice then.
Should You Kill the Dream Visitor in BG3?
No, you should not kill the Dream Visitor when you enter the Astral Prism for the first time. We have a whole guide you can check out on whether or not you should attack the Dream Visitor in BG3, but for now, suffice it to say, choosing to kill the Dream Visitor will not work out for you.
There are several reasons to not kill the Dream Visitor, but all you really need to know is that choosing to do so ultimately won’t work. The Dream Visitor will heal themselves, utter their disappointment, and then you’ll lose their trust. You’ll gain nothing from this choice.
Should you choose to spare the Dream Visitor in BG3, you’ll get some much-needed explanations out of them. They won’t divulge too much information, but they’ll reassure you that Vlaakith is a lying tyrant not to be trusted, and that your guardian is doing their best to keep you alive. Furthermore, you’ll be able to continue Lae’zel’s questline by slowly convincing her that her queen is the worst.
How to Enter the Astral Prism in Baldur’s Gate 3 Act 3
The following information contains some spoilers for Baldur’s Gate 3’s late game. We recommend you finish Act 2, at the very least, before reading on.
To enter the Astral Prism again, you must reach the end of the main story in Baldur’s Gate 3. Once you have all the Netherstones in place, you can head to the Morphic Pools in the Undercity Sewers and initiate the final sequence of BG3. There is a lot more to complete at this point, but you will be brought to the Astral Prism one last time.
That means you need to be entirely sure you are done with your playthrough before attempting to reach the Astral Prism. To free Orpheus, you must have the Orphic Hammer before entering. There is no going back; you can’t just find a portal to the prism whenever you want. You have one opportunity to change the fate of Orpheus and the Githyanki.
How to Enter the Astral Prism in Act 3 of BG3:
- Reach Chapter 3 in the main story.
- Collect all three Netherstones.
- Reach the Morphic Pools in the Undercity Sewers.
- Enter the point of no return in the main story.
For those of you following the storyline of Lae’zel or the Githyanki, your quest log likely instructs you to find a way to enter the Astral Prism. This entire quest is linked to the main story, so like before, don’t worry about actually looking for a way in. Just follow the main quest and get all the Netherstones.
