Despite having waited for over ten years for a sequel, Alan Wake fans will have to wait a few more days before they can get their hands on it. Alan Wake 2 is being pushed back a few days – from October 17 to October 27 – in order to avoid clashes with other games releasing around the same time.
As stated by the Alan Wake 2 official X (formerly known as Twitter) account, the decision was made in order to allow players to enjoy other titles that will be out around the same time. And that might be the correct call, considering how many big names will be dropping by then.
Initially scheduled for October 17, Alan Wake 2 would be competing directly against Spider-Man 2 and Super Mario Bros. Wonder, both releasing on October 20. It also pushes it away from Ubisoft’s newest entry in the Assassin’s Creed series, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is scheduled for October 12.
Conflicting release dates are always a problem for game developers. Thanks to how differently video games work as a media, it’s way harder for them to have a Barbenheimer-like moment. Well, except for Doom and Animal Crossing back in 2020. But my point is that despite a few more days of waiting might be discouraging at first, it’s probably for the best for everyone involved.

And since there are no other possibly conflicting titles dropping during November’s first week (Call of Duty won’t be here until November 10), the new October 27 date is definitely a great choice.
The game’s target audience is probably not the same as Mario’s, but many Spider-Man fans are probably also interested in Remedy Entertainment’s long-awaited sequel, so it’s nice to have a few days of breathing between both of these releases.
Alan Wake 2 is now scheduled for a release on October 27 for PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PS5, and PC. You can take a look at each edition’s differences here.
